CSK Rocked By Injury, Illness, Absenteeism Of 5 Players. Coach Stephen Fleming Delivers Sorry News

The Chennai Super Kings continue to dwindle in the final stretch of the league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side suffered an embarrassing 7-wicke defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings on Wednesday, putting themselves in a tough spot over playoffs qualification. One of the biggest reasons behind CSK's defeat was injuries to key players and absenteeism of a few others. Speaking to media after the match, CSK coach Stephen Fleming revealed how CSK's squad has been reduced to bare minimum.

"50-60 Runs Short": CSK Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's Blunt Admission On Defeat Against PBKS

The absence of two frontline bowlers, Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande, and copious amount of dew at the Chepauk Stadium hurt Chennai Super Kings in their seven-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings here on Wednesday, reckoned skipper Ruturaj Gaikward. CSK could only muster a below-par 162/7. Gaikwad made a handsome 62 but other batters struggled against accurate spin bowling by Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar. CSK had to make two changes for the match as their Sri Lankan pacer Pathirana was nursing a niggle and Deshpande was unwell.

PCB Finalises Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi As Champions Trophy 2025 Venues

The Pakistan Cricket Board has earmarked Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi as venues for next year's Champions Trophy, continuing to insist that the tournament will stay in the country despite speculation of a 'hybrid model' being under consideration to ensure India's participation. The Champions Trophy, which was last held in England in 2017, is expected to be held tentatively in February-March next year. India have not yet confirmed participation and there is speculation that the ICC could use the 'Hybrid Model' and hold the country's matches at a neutral venue if the team does not get government clearance to travel. The ICC has already made it clear that it will not ask any member nation to defy government policy.
