The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the post of Indian men's cricket team's head coach for a period of three and half years as incumbent Rahul Dravid's tenure will end with next month's T20 World Cup in the Americas. The deadline to submit an application is on May 27, 2024, the board stated in a media release. "The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates," the release further stated.
Experienced Scott Edwards was on Monday named as the captain of the Netherlands for next month's T20 World Cup, the Royal Dutch Cricket Association announced. The 27-year-old Edwards was elected the skipper despite his modest outings in the recent tri-series, involving hosts Nepal and Namibia. Overall, he has played 56 T20I for the Netherlands, scoring 671 runs at a strike-rate of 122. Indian-origin cricketers – Teja Nidamanuru, Vikram Singh and Aryan Dutt – are also part of the squad.
Sri Lanka women's team defeated Scotland by 68 runs in the summit clash of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024. Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka posted a total of 169/5 in 20 overs with skipper Chamari Athapaththu smashing 102 runs off just 63 balls. Later, Sri Lanka restricted Scotland to 101/7 with Udeshika Prabodhani registering a three-wicket haul. Former India cricketer S Sreesanth has made a big revelation. The ex-India pacer, whose place of birth is Kerala, revealed that he was called a Madrasi throughout his entire life. It is worth noting that Madrasi is a regional slur that is used for the natives or inhabitants of Southern India, mainly Tamil Nadu. Having become the first fast bowler ever to take 700 wickets in Test cricket during England's tour of India earlier this year, legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne's tally of 708 wickets in the format could be on Anderson's target as he takes the field for one final run with the England team. The first Test of the summer at Lord's will be Anderson's final game, which will be against West Indies. England are set to play Tests against West Indies and Sri Lanka at home this year.
To boost the country's cricket ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced a big pay hike for the country's cricketers. The SLC officially announced on Friday that "fees for all categories of Sri Lanka's international players have been increased, with immediate effect". "Accordingly, 41 players will be offered new contracts under six categories, namely, A1, A2, B2, C1, C2, and 'A' Team," SLC announced. Though the announcement has come ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup which will be held in the Caribbean and the United States, the biggest pay hike was for Test cricket with 100% on a merit basis. There will be different payment structures for a Test match 'won', 'drawn' or 'lost', SLC stated.
