First Time In 147 Years: Indian Women's Cricket Team Achieves Massive Feat

The Indian women's cricket team created history on the opening day of the Test match against South Africa on Friday as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side scored a mammoth 525 for the loss of four wickets. It was the most runs scored by any team in a day's play in Test history (both men and women). The record previously belonged to Sri Lanka men's cricket team who scored 509 for the loss of nine wickets in the Colombo Test against Bangladesh in 2022. In women's cricket, the record belonged to England who scored 431 for the loss of two wickets against New Zealand at Lancaster Park, Christchurch in 1935.

India's T20 World Cup semi-final against England turned out to be an another flop show for star batter Virat Kohli as he once again failed to deliver a strong performance. India skipper Rohit Sharma scripted a huge record during the T20 World Cup semi-final match against England. In a rain-hit semi-finale clash in Guyana, India were asked to bat after England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss. India had a good outing with the bat as they posted a total of 171/7 in 20 overs. Rohit was the star batter for his team with his 57-run knock off 39 balls. Apart from him, Suryakumar Yadav also scored 47 off 36 balls.

Afghanistan left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi made history on Thursday, becoming the bowler with most wickets taken in a single edition of ICC T20 World Cup. Farooqi reached this milestone during his side's semifinal match against South Africa at Tarouba in Trinidad. During the game, Farooqi took the wicket of wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and ended with figures of 1/11 in two overs. Now in the ongoing tournament, Farooqi has taken 17 wickets in eight games at an average of 9.41 and an economy rate of 6.31, with the best bowling figures of 5/9. He is the leading wicket-taker in the competition as of now.

Australia opener Travis head on Wednesday toppled India's Suryakumar Yadav as the number one batter in the latest ICC T20 rankings. Suryakumar was holding the number one spot since December 2023 but Head's splendid run at the T20 World Cup catapulted him to the top even as his team has been knocked out. Head scored 255 runs with two half centuries, including a 76 against India in a Super Eight contest. The Australian is two points ahead of Suryakumar (842 points) who dropped a spot to second.

India To Play Pakistan In Women's T20 Asia Cup Opener On July 19

Defending champions India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on July 19 in the Women's T20 Asia Cup to be held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. The top eight teams of the continent will participate in the tournament from July 19 till July 28. Unlike last time, this year the eight teams have been divided into two groups. India Pakistan, UAE and Nepal are placed in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia are in Group B.

"I think the semi-final is going to be a massive, massive like inspiration for the youngsters back home in Afghanistan. That Afghanistan team get into the semis for the first time," Rashid said at the post match press conference.
