Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the rest of their three-match One Day International (ODI) series against India due to a hamstring injury, governing body Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said on Saturday.
The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka turned out to be a nail-biting thriller. Chasing 231, Team India started off on a good note with skipper Rohit Sharma leading from the front with his 58-run knock. On the verge of victory, India needed one run off 15 balls with two wickets in hand. Suddenly, Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka became a game-changer as he dismissed Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh (both LBW) on consecutive deliveries and match ended in a tie.
All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury. With the first ODI ending in a thrilling tie, India and Sri Lanka will face off in the second ODI here at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. Hasaranga was seen holding his hamstring during the final delivery of his spell. Jeffrey Vandersay has been named the replacement for the all-rounder whose exit depletes the Sri Lankan bowling attack since they have already lost the services of Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madushanka, Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara.

Following the toss, cricket fans noticed that India's jersey had three stars - an observation that prompted major discussions on social media. Previously, India used to have three stars on their jersey in order to signify the title wins in the 1983 ODI World Cup, 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. However, with the team winning the T20 World Cup 2024, there should have been four stars to signify all the World Cup wins. Some users speculated that it can also include Champions Trophy wins, but India have won that title twice and as a result, there should have been four stars.
Amidst uncertainty on whether India will travel to Pakistan to play 2025 Champions Trophy matches, former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq said it does not matter to him whether or not the visitors' will come to the country for the eight-team tournament. Pakistan were hosts' of Men's Asia Cup 2023, but with India refusing to travel, it meant Sri Lanka were roped in as the venue to stage the tournament in a hybrid model. India has not played in Pakistan since 2008 Men's Asia Cup due to security concerns.

Dhoni was speaking recently at an event in Hyderabad. Speaking about his relationship with Virat, Dhoni said that whenever they meet, they make sure to have a chat with each other. "We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun. It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for sometime, we will talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship," said Dhoni.

Chasing a target of 231, India looked all set to clinch the victory with 1 run to win from 15 balls. On the third ball of the 48th over, Dube slammed Asalanka for a boundary and it prompted a huge celebration from Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room. However, things quickly changed as Dube was dismissed LBW on the very next ball and India had just one wicket remaining.
