India all-rounder Washington Sundar has been nominated for the ICC Player of the month Award for July alongside England's Gus Atkinson and Charlie Cassell of Scotland. After years of perseverance and battling injuries, Washington appears to have finally established himself in international cricket. Washington was part of a youthful Indian squad that toured Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. With the regular players resting after their World Cup victory, the 24-year-old stepped up and emerged as the team's leading spin-bowling all-rounder, proving his worth and justifying the faith placed in him.

India openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, along with Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu have been nominated for ICC Women's Player of the Month award for July 2024. Smriti, the left-handed opener and India's vice-captain, is aiming to make it back-to-back success after winning the ICC Women's Player of the Month award in June 2024, after making 273 runs at an average of 68.25 with a strike rate of 139.28 in T20Is in July. She continued her prolific run into July, beginning with a career-best 149 in the one-off Test against South Africa at Chennai. Along with fellow nominee Shafali, she added 292 runs for the first wicket, which was the highest-ever partnership for the first wicket in Women's Tests, setting the base for India winning the match by 10 wickets.

ICC's Plan B If BCCI Refuses To Send Team India To Pakistan For Champions Trophy

There continues to remain a deadlock over the ICC Champions Trophy's fate, with Pakistan Cricket Board keen to host the entire tournament at home while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is refusing to send the Indian team across the border. The Indian board wants its matches to be held in UAE or Sri Lanka, Pakistan has shared the proposal of hosting all of India's matches in Lahore. While no resolution has been reached so far, the ICC has reportedly prepared a Plan B in a case where the Indian team doesn't come to Pakistan at all.

Former England Batter Graham Thorpe Dies At 55

Former England and Surrey batter Graham Thorpe has died aged 55 after battling a "serious illness" since 2022, the country's cricket board announced on Monday. Considered one of the finest batters of his generation, Thorpe was hospitalised shortly after being named the head coach of Afghanistan in 2022 but the details of his medical condition are not known. He is survived by his wife Amanda and four children, Henry, Amelia, Kitty and Emma. "It is with great sadness that the ECB shares the news that Graham Thorpe, MBE, has passed away," ECB said in a statement, without giving the exact cause of his death.

Rohit Sharma Overtakes Sachin Tendulkar To Claim Massive Record With Half-Century Against Sri Lanka

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma continued his dominant run in ODI cricket with yet another half-century during the second game against Sri Lanka, overtaking Rahul Dravid to become the country's fourth-highest run-getter in the format. After a half-century in the first ODI, Rohit continued firing all cylinders in the second ODI, scoring 66 in just 44 balls, with five fours and four sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of over 145. Now in 264 matches, Rohit has scored 10,831 runs at an average of 49.23, with a strike rate of 92.29, with 31 centuries and 57 fifties. His best score is 264. Also, as an opener, Rohit has overtaken Sachin Tendulkar to register the most fifty-plus scores for India in international cricket. With 43 centuries and 78 fifties, he has got 121 fifty-plus scores as an opener in all of cricket, just one more than Sachin's 120, who had 45 centuries and 75 fifties as an opener.

First Time In 27 Years: India Pick Up Unwanted Feat After ODI Loss vs Sri Lanka

As Team India's batting collapsed to 208 all out in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, the side picked up an unwanted accolade. The loss meant that this will be the first time in 27 years that India will not win a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka, in which at least one match has been completed. India have won 11 consecutive bilateral ODI series since 1997, but that streak will come to an end here, as India can manage a 1-1 series draw at best.
