LAS VEGAS — A high playoff seed at the men's world curling championship could ease the grind for Brad Gushue's Canadian team.
All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Kushal Das on Friday said that the main issue with football in the country is the lack of a robust league structure. The Indian men's football league system consists of three divisions (Indian Super League, I-league and I-League 2nd Division), besides the Indian Women's League (IWL). Currently ranked 106th in the FIFA chart, the men's national team is aiming to qualify for its second successive AFC Asian Cup finals and are clubbed with Afghanistan (150), Cambodia (171) Hong Kong (147) in Group D for the qualifiers in June.
South Korea 3-0 here on Friday to enter the semifinals of the FIH Junior World Cup for only the second time. The Indians, who topped the pool stage with an all-win record, scored through Mumtaz Khan (11th minute), Lalrindiki (15th) and Sangita Kumari (41st) to emerge winners in the quarterfinal match. India's best result in the tournament remains the bronze medal finish at the 2013 edition in Monchengladbach, Germany, where they defeated England 3-2 in shootout following a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time. Against Korea, India made a sedate start but found their footing 10 minutes into the game.
Tiger Woods, making an incredible comeback 14 months after suffering severe leg injuries in a car crash, fired a one-under par 71 on Thursday for a solid start at The Masters.
South Korea’s Sung-jae Im carded a superb five-under par opening round at the Masters to take a one-shot lead from Australia’s Cameron Smith heading into day two.
Tiger Woods produced a superb one-under 71 in the first round of the 86th Masters and will enjoy a late start on Friday for what should be a fascinating second day at Augusta. Woods will resume at 1:41pm (6:41pm BST) alongside 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen (76) and Los Angeles Open winner Joaquin Niemann, who opened with a round of 69 to lie two shots behind overnight leader Sungjae Im of South Korea. Ad/> Woods admits he will use the 18 hours or so between the end of his first round to the start of his second preparing for the physical demands of walking on his damaged right leg.
South Korea coach Paulo Bento said Portugal are much more than a one-man team and stopping Cristiano Ronaldo will be just one of their tasks when they meet at the World Cup later this year.
Tiger Woods stole the show after a frantic opening day of the 86th Masters at a windswept but always wonderful Augusta as a fine one-under 71 left him four shots off the lead held by South Korea's Sungjae Im. The 15-time major winner produced brilliant birdies at the par-three sixth and 16th holes with a four at the par-five 13th hole overshadowing two bogeys on the eighth and 14th holes amid some glorious par-saving putts at the ninth and 18th holes. Ad/> Woods' return to competitive golf is miraculous after a horrific car crash in February 2021 in Los Angeles left him in hospital for three months, wondering about possible amputation of his damaged right leg, but is also in keeping with a career that continues to defy the odds after several career-saving back operations.
