India captain Rohit Sharma has suggested that he would've dropped Suryakumar Yadav from the team if he had not taken David Miller's catch in the T20 World Cup final last week. In the final over of the match, Miller hit a wide full toss from Hardik Pandya but Suryakumar was able to catch the ball inside the ropes at long-off, realised it just as he went over the boundary, and then came back in to complete an astonishing catch. Rohit, Suryakumar, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal were all felicitated by the Maharashtra goverment after Team India's success at the T20 World Cup.
The special flight carrying the T20 World Cup 2024-winning Indian cricket team from New Delhi to Mumbai received a special water salute after landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Thursday. The special tribute was organised by the airport staff in honour of the team. The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated South Africa in the final to clinch the T20 World Cup 2024 title - their first T20I World Cup title after 17 years. The Indian cricket team clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title without losing a single game after they defeated South Africa in a thrilling final. It was a huge occasion for the Rohit Sharma-led side as they produced some brilliant performances and were able to win the T20 World Cup title after 17 years. However, the win was not without its fair share of controversies as some players expressed their displeasure with the scheduling of the competition and the seeding system used by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Some experts also pointed out that India knowing the exact venue of their semifinal match before any other team was not fair to the other sides. Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar, however, called the allegations 'laughable' and said that the scheduling of most major tournaments are done keeping the Indian audience in mind as they make up a major chunk of the ICC's revenue.
Ireland captain Peter O'Mahony says the selection of Jamie Osborne at full-back for Saturday's first Test against South Africa came as no shock, and has backed the debutant to thrive at Loftus Versfeld.
Around a month ago, India's star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was subjected to the crowd boos during the Indian Premier League 2024. He was became a subject of ridicule after replacing Rohit Sharma as the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) team. What made things worse was the fact that even the home crowd of the side didn't spare the new captain. The situation was hard for Hardik during that time, but he certainly gave a befitting reply to all that by playing a crucial role in India's T20 World Cup campaign. It was Hardik, who bowled the crucial final over of the T20 World Cup summit clash and eventually led India to victory.
SA Rugby (SARU) has backed the South African Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC) decision to halt its planned broadcast of the Springboks' matches against Ireland.
Young India wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel has revealed that he was cheering for South Africa during the side's 2024 T20 World Cup final against India in Barbados. In the summit clash, India won by seven runs, snatching an unbelievable victory from the jaws of defeat. At one stage, South Africa needed just 30 runs from 30 balls but India managed to turn the tide in their favour. Now, Jurel has confessed that while he was supporting India, South Africa were playing well. So, playing on the jinx, he switched to supporting South Africa so that India could make a comeback in the game. And sure enough, India did bounce back.
