(Reuters) - The Netherlands cricket board said former India and South Africa coach Gary Kirsten and Australia batter Dan Christian are joining the Dutch team's coaching staff for the Twenty20 World Cup as consultants.
India's World Cup-winning former coach Gary Kirtsten and Australia's Dan Christian have joined the Netherlands cricket team as consultants for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. Having qualified for the T20 World Cup in July, the Dutch will take on the United Arab Emirates, Namibia and Sri Lanka in the Group stage matches on October 16, 18 and 20 respectively. Top two teams from the Group stage will qualify for the Super 12s.
Jos Buttler is back in his all-action role as captain, opening batsman and wicketkeeper as power-packed England prepare to launch their bid for Twenty20 World Cup glory. The white ball star missed his side's recent 4-3 series win in Pakistan with a calf injury and in his absence Alex Hales and Phil Salt impressed at the top of the batting order, with Salt taking the gloves. But Buttler appeared to end speculation over whether he might relinquish his wicket-keeping role or drop down the batting order in the first game of a three-match series against Australia on Sunday.
India are under pressure to win their first global title since 2013 at the T20 World Cup in Australia but they must do so without injured pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit Sharma's team open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne in a hotly anticipated clash which could set the tone for their tournament. Top-ranked India recently won T20 series at home against Australia and South Africa and have been the team to beat in one-on-one competitions.
India's build-up to the 2022 T20 World Cup has been marred by injuries to a couple of top players. If Ravindra Jadeja's knee injury robbed India of a solid allrounder, Jasprit Bumrah's back injury meant that India would be without its pace spearhead in the marquee event. After making a comeback in the T20I series against Australia, following a lengthy rehabilitation, Bumrah again missed the T20I series against South Africa. He was then ruled out of the T20 World Cup.
After a defeat in the first ODI against South Africa, the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian cricket team bounced back in style in the second ODI. Shreyas Iyer scored a 111-ball 113 while No. 3 batter Ishan Kishan hit a fluent 84-ball 93 as India chased down 279-run target in just 45.5 overs. After the win, opener Shubman Gill greeted Ishan in a unique way, just like in the Hrithik Roshan-starrer movie Vikram Vedha. Gill also posted a video of the same along with the caption: "Well played my Shatak #vikramvedha."
It will be an emotional homecoming for Dhawan as captain but inclement weather in Delhi could disrupt plansNEW DELHI: Shikhar Dhawan slogged for years in the anonymity of domestic cricket. The Ferozeshah Kotla was his home during those anxious years waiting to break into the Indian team. Two months away from turning 37, Dhawan has landed in Delhi as captain of the Indian team, although one widely referred to as a 'second-string' one. To his credit, this team has held its own against a full-strength South African team, heading into the third and final ODI with a 1-1 scoreline.
India and South Africa battle it out in the third and deciding ODI at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. The series is currently levelled at 1-1 and this means that the winner on Tuesday will bag the series. India lost the first game to South Africa by 9 runs in Lucknow before the hosts put up a dominating show with the bat in Ranchi. In the second game that took place at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, India registered a comfortable 7-wicket win.
