Ace Indian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal put up a sensational show to progress to the semifinals of two events and the quarter-final of one event events in the table tennis competition of the Commonwealth Games on Friday. The record nine-time national champion, who has as many as 10 CWG medals to his name, entered the men's singles quarter-finals after beating Nigeria's Olajide Omotayo 4-2 in a thrilling contest. Sharath, 40, also reached the semifinals of mixed and men's doubles competition along with his respective partners.

Sharath first paired up with young Sreeja Akula to stun two-time silver medallists Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho of England 3-2 (11-7 8-11 11-8 11-13 11-9) in mixed doubles and then combined with Sathiyan Gnanasekaran to beat another English pair of Tom Jarvis and Sam Walker 3-0 (11-6 11-8 11-4) in men's doubles event. Another mixed pair of Sathiyan and Manika Batra, however, went down 2-3 to Malaysian combination of Javen Choong and Karen Lyne, while men's pairing of Sanil Shetty and Harmeet Desai also ended their campaign with a 0-3 loss to Singapore's Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Poh Shao Feng Ethan.

CWG 2022: Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula Reach Women's Singles Quarter-Finals
Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula entered the women's singles quarterfinals in the table tennis event of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Friday. Batra steamrolled Australian Jee Minhyung 11-4 11-8 11-6 12-10 to book her place in the quarterfinal. The 27-year-old star paddler will now take on Singapore's Jian Zeng in the last eight-clash later tonight.
Commonwealth Games 2022: Updated Medals Tally; With 20 Medals, India At 7th
Day 7 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games saw India add two medals -- a gold and silver -- to their kitty. With six gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, India are currently seventh in medals tally, having won a total of 20 medals. India's Sudhir bagged a gold in the men's heavyweight final of para powerlifting to end Day 7 on a positive note. Murali Sreeshankar had also clinched a historic silver for India with a best jump of 8.08m in the men's long jump.
