Malaysia Masters: HS Prannoy, Satish Karunakaran, Kidambi Srikanth Register Wins; PV Sindhu Exits

India's male shuttlers, led by the experienced duo of H S Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth, were off to a brilliant start but it was curtains for double Olympic-medallist PV Sindhu as she bowed out with a first-round loss at the Malaysia Masters badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. Prannoy and Srikanth were joined by Satish Karunakaran in the second round of the event. Taking the court first, 2023 world championships bronze medallist Prannoy stunned fifth seed Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 19-21 21-17 21-16 in a hard-fought contest that lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

"Prospect Of India, Pakistan Not Playing...": BCCI Source's Big Revelation Ahead Of ICC Meet

The future of Indo-Pak cricket at ICC events is set to be discussed at the annual conference of the sport's governing body, scheduled in Singapore from July 17-20. Both countries only play each other at multi team events but the recent military conflict has fuelled speculation over the future of the blockbuster clash in ICC competitions starting with next year's T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. "The issue is bound to come up for discussion at the annual conference. While prospect of India and Pakistan not playing in ICC knockouts is unlikely, not drawing them in the same group, which has been the norm at ICC events, is a possibility," a BCCI source told PTI.

SINGAPORE: A Singapore Youth League (SYL) football match made the news last week. Not for a spectacular goal or a breakout young talent. Instead, the headlines came after one parent allegedly assaulted another after an Under-14 game between Geylang International and Albirex Singapore Football Academy on May 11.

We Need To Improve A Lot: Indian Football Team Head Coach Manolo Marquez

Angry and disappointed with India's 0-0 draw against Bangladesh in the Asian Cup qualifying round match, head coach Manolo Marquez on Tuesday made it clear that his side needs a lot of improvement if they are to qualify for the continental showpiece. India were held to a goal-less draw by lower-ranked Bangladesh in their opening Group C match of the qualifying third round match on March 25 in Shillong, which left Marquez fuming. India are up against Hong Kong in their second match -- an away game -- on June 10. The team has started its training camp on Monday. "We need to improve a lot because I felt that the team was going forward in every FIFA window except the last," Marquez said, alluding to the match against Bangladesh.

PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy Eye Turnaround At Malaysia Masters

Star Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy will look to script a turnaround in fortunes when they lead the country's campaign at the USD 475,000 Malaysia Masters Super 500 tournament beginning in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. Both Sindhu and Prannoy have endured a tough phase of late, struggling with form and fitness. The duo lost their respective matches against Indonesia and Denmark in the Sudirman Cup last month — their last competitive outing. With a two-week break under their belt, the experienced shuttlers will now be eager to rediscover their rhythm at the Axiata Arena.
