Nigeria did all but put the ball in the net legally, yesterday, at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali, where they met hosts, Rwanda, in a Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles settled for a 0-0 draw against the Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali, their second Group D fixture of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers on Tuesday.
Former Green Eagles winger, Adegoke Adelabu, is not in a hurry to count the Super Eagles as a winning team despite their 3-0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo at the weekend.
Head coach of Amavubi of Rwanda, Frank Torsten Spittler, says they will take advantage of playing at home when the Super Eagles visit Kigali for their matchday 2 game in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Rwandans drew 1-1 away at Libya in their opening group game, and will host the Super Eagles at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on September 10.Spittler hailed his players for getting a point away from home and believes his team is taking shape ahead of the game against the Super Eagles. “We always score one goal, and it brings us pressure throughout the 90 minutes. Our team is, however, taking shape and we can get better. We know our next game against Nigeria won’t be easy, but we hope to make the best out of our home advantage. Now every point counts and this draw with Libya brings us more confidence,” Spittler said after the 1-1 draw in Libya. The German is also confident Jojea Kwizera would have recovered fully from fatigue which forced his substitution in the game against Libya. “Jojea came from afar and had only one training session with us. I knew it would be difficult for him because of the conditions but he tried. He is a good player and, as he can now spend few days of training preparing for Nigeria, he will be essential for us,” he added.
Two matches offer just six points in all football competitions, and it is not any different in this case this weekend in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Super Eagles’ Interim Manager, Augustine Eguavoen, has declared that Nigeria is raring to go for all six points available in this month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against their counterparts from Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has drafted in Benjamin Tanimu, who recently joined English League One (Third Division) club, Crawley Town FC, as a replacement for injured Bright Osayi-Samuel ahead of the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
