Ary Borges stole the headlines on day five of the Women’s World Cup as her hat-trick helped Brazil thrash tournament debutants Panama 4-0 in Adelaide.
Ary Borges has come a long way in a short time, achieving a feat not even Pele or Ronaldinho could manage and winning high praise from Brazilian superstar teammate Marta in the process. The 23-year-old burst on the scene as Brazil opened their Women's World Cup campaign with a 4-0 thumping of Panama in Adelaide, scoring three goals and setting up the other. It made her the first Brazilian, man or woman, to score a hat-trick on their World Cup debut, according to governing body FIFA.
Ary Borges called it beyond her wildest dreams after hitting the first hat-trick of this Women's World Cup as Brazil crushed Panama 4-0 in a scintillating start to their campaign on Monday.

ADELAIDE : Brazil's Ary Borges said she went through the full gamut of emotions during her Women's World Cup debut in Monday's 4-0 win over Panama, adding that she was as surprised as anyone to score a hat-trick in her first game at the showpiece event.
Ary Borges was the star of the show at the Women's World Cup on Monday, hitting a hat-trick for an impressive Brazil, while Germany also won big to begin their campaign. Italy were also victors but needed an 87th-minute header from substitute Cristiana Girelli to squeeze past Argentina 1-0. Brazil have featured at all eight previous Women's World Cups -- and never won it. Far tougher challenges lie ahead -- they face France next -- but their 4-0 thumping of debutants Panama was the perfect start for Swedish coach Pia Sundhage's side.
Alexandra Popp starred as Germany sent out a statement of intent at the Women’s World Cup with the two-time champions kickstarting their campaign with a 6-0 win over Morocco.
