HONG KONG :South Korea's Son Heung-min scored twice and set up the third in a 3-0 win over China as Asia's top sides claimed victories in the second round of qualifying on Tuesday for the 2026 World Cup.
A court in Gandhinagar in Gujarat on Tuesday granted bail to an Australian, arrested for intruding on the pitch during the ICC World Cup cricket final wearing a pro-Palestine T-shirt. A day earlier, the accused, Wen Johnson, was remanded in police custody for a day by the court. Johnson was produced before the court on Tuesday evening which released him on bail on conditions that he would cooperate in the probe and deposit his passport with the court, said a senior city crime branch official.

In the Cricket World Cup 2023 final, a fan breached a tight security cordon to enter the field of play in a desperate attempt to hug Virat Kohli in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. The incident created plenty of ruckus in the stadium, prompting the security officals to spring into action. The man has since been booked, and identified as Wen Johnson. Johnson wore a face mask bearing the design of a Palestine flag and a T-shirt with slogans- 'Stop bombing Palestine' and 'Save Palestine'- written on the front and back sides, respectively. He was initially taken to Chandkheda police station but has now been handed over to the crime branch.
Ticket revenues for the Asian Cup 2023 in Qatar are to be donated to support Palestinian relief efforts, the football tournament's local organising committee announced on Monday, as Israel's bombardment of Gaza continued. "We have decided to donate ticketing revenue generated from the Asian Cup in Qatar to much needed relief efforts in Palestine," the committee's chairman said without giving details on what proportion of sales would be given in aid. "We will be certain that this corporate social responsibility initiative will benefit those most affected, and that football fulfils its role as a support mechanism for people during the most difficult of times," Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani added.
Now it's on to the next objective, with many parts of northern Gaza laid to waste. Israel has now dropped leaflets telling Palestinians to evacuate four specific neighbourhoods of Khan Younis. In the last 24 hours, Israel's ground operation has netted the bodies of two hostages: a 65-year-old woman and a 19-year-old female soldier, a reminder that there's more than 200 still believed to be held.
