The 33-year-old left-handed opener hit an undefeated 180 off 144 balls for his tenth ODI hundred. It followed his 117 in the first match and 101 against the same opponents in January as Pakistan chased a stiff 337-run target in 48.2 overs. The stylish one-drop batter improved on his 113 in the first ODI on Thursday with 129 for 119 balls, and was ably supported by Latham (98) and Chad Bowes (51) after New Zealand were sent in to bat by Pakistan. Mitchell smashed three sixes and eight boundaries and consolidated the innings through a third-wicket stand of 183 with skipper Latham, as the pair took full advantage of a flat pitch.

It was an embarrassing moment for Pakistan cricket as the second ODI encounter between Pakistan and New Zealand was halted for an extremely unusual reason. The match was just one over old when the on-field officials realised that the dimensions of the 30 yard circle was not correct. The match, which was being played at Rawalpindi, was stopped as the umpires rectified the circle with help from the ground officials. According to reports in Pakistan media, umpire Aleem Dar took charge of rectifying the measurements and he measured the distance with steps.
