It has been quite long since there has been an India vs Pakistan bilateral series. The last time the two teams played a bilateral series was in 2012-13. Whenever the Indian cricket team clashes with the Pakistan cricket team, the stadium is fully occupied and viewer ship soars.
Pakistan went down without putting a fight against Australia in the three-match Test series, suffering a 0-3 whitewash Down Under against the Pat Cummins-led side. The biggest loophole in their performance was the poor the outing of the pacers, including new T20I captain Shaheen Afridi, who was rested for the final game of the series in Sydney due to workload management. Star pacer Shaheen, who is set to lead the team in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, has conceded that the performance of the pacers, including himself, was "disheartening".
Rhythm Sangwan became the 16th Indian shooter to win a Paris Olympic quota place with a bronze medal in the 25m sports pistol event at the Asia Qualifiers in Jakarta on Thursday. With Rhythm's qualification, India secured its highest-ever number of quota places for the July-August Games, with the previous best being the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where the country had sent 15 shooters. This is the third Olympic quota place for India here after Esha Singh and Varun Tomar bagged the 10m air pistol women's and men's spots on Monday.
The banter between former India opener Virender Sehwag and ex-Pakistan pacer Shoaib Aktar is not new. The two, who are good friends off the cricket field, never miss any opportunity to pull each other's leg. Be it during their playing days at the highest level or even after their international retirement, the funny exchanges between the two continue to leave everyone in splits. A recent interaction between the two star players has gone viral on social media. In the clip, Akhtar tries to take a funny dig at Sehwag but the latter comes up with an even funnier reply.
Babar Azam is currently struggling with a lean patch. After a rather quiet ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, where he could not leave a big mark, Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team. Shan Massod took over the Test captaincy while Shaheen Afridi took over the T20I captaincy. After the Cricket World Cup, Pakistan's first assignment was a three-Test series against Australia which it lost 3-0. Babar Azam did not have a good Tour in Australia too as he could go past the 40-mark only once in six innings.
Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the greatest active players currently. With 490 wickets in 95 Test matches, the second-highest wicket-taker among active spinners after Nathan Lyon (509 wickets). However, with India facing England in a five-match series starting later this month, Ashwin has a good chance to surpass Lyon. He needs only 10 more wickets to be the second Indian after the great Anil Kumble to take 500 or more Test wickets. He is currently enjoying a break before the Test series against England.
Legendary Indian cricket team batter Virender Sehwag is well known for his hilarious comments on social media and this time, he came up with a hilarious banter with the Pakistan trio of Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar.
