The Pakistan Super League (PSL) began on February 17. Several high-profile international cricketers have pulled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to the overlapping of dates with other franchise-based tournaments and many cricket boards denying permission to their players to compete in domestic T20 competitions. All the six franchises have been hit hard with several players opting for the Bangladesh Premier League, ILT20 and SA20 leagues.
Not much has gone right with the Pakistan cricket team since the ODI World Cup 2023. The team's poor show in the marquee event saw Babar Azam stepping down as captain while a plethora of other changes were also made in the backroom staff. Mohammad Hafeez was appointed as the national team director, with the bosses hoping for a change in fortunes, but little went as planned, with Pakistan losing heavily on the tours of Australia and New Zealand. Having seen his tenure as Pakistan's team director ending early, Hafeez has now revealed the 'tough conversation' he had with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan during his time in charge.
The remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League in Karachi will not be affected by the terrorist attack on the Karachi police chief's office on Friday evening, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said. Sethi said the matches would continue as presidential security has been in place for the players and officials since the start of the league.
The Shaheen Afridi-led Lahore Qalandars registered a big win over the Shadab Khan-led Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Monday. Batting first, the Qalandars notched 200/7 in 20 overs with Abdullah Shafique top-scoring with a 24-ball 45. In reply, Islamabad were all out for 90 in 13.5 overs. While David Wiese took three wickets for Qalandars, Rashid Khan and Sikandar Raza took two wickets each. Afghanistan star Rashid also contributed with the bat, scoring 18 off 12 balls. His innings included two fours and a six.
In Umran Malik, the Indian cricket team has got a tearaway pacer who can thrill with speed. The 23-year-old consistently clocks over 150 kph and has already played in ODIs and T20Is for India. He holds the record of fastest delivery in the Indian Premier League - 157 kph. He also recently achieved the highest speed by an Indian pacer in international cricket when he bowled a 156 kph delivery against Sri Lanka in an ODI. His progress is being widely followed, especially by cricketers from Pakistan too.
The ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) has seem some great performances. With the prevalence of pacers in cricket in the country, it is all but natural that the speed merchants have grabbed the limelight. From the unheralded Ihsanullah to the talented Naseem Shah, there have been quite a few memorable performances. On Monday night too, pacers Mohammad Hasnain (3/13 in four overs) and Naseem Shah (1/19 in four overs) delivered a great show for Quetta Gladiators against the Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi. However, despite the duo performance, Peshawar chased down a 155-run target in 18.3 overs.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is on and it has already been witness to some scintillating action. On Friday, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Quetta Gladiators faced the Shadab Khan-captained Islamabad United. Incidentally, while Quetta Gladiators is coached by former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan, his son Azam Khan is a batting mainstay of Islamabad United. Ultimately, it was Azam's brutal 42-ball 97 that helped his team beat his father's side. The 24-year-old Azam hit eight sixes and nine fours against Quetta.
