England captain Ben Stokes on Monday dismissed suggestions that his team lacked ruthlessness in their approach against India as they suffered their first Test series defeat in 'Bazball' era on Monday. India beat England by five wickets in the fourth and penultimate Test to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. The home team's victory marked a stunning downfall for England's ultra-aggressive 'Bazball' approach, which has been their much-hyped winning mantra since 2022 and is now facing all-round criticism for being too rigid and lacking in depth. After four series wins and three draws, England's 'Bazball' approach hit a roadblock on Monday, February 26 after defeat to India in the fourth Test of a five-match rubber in Ranchi. The narrow defeat means England are no longer invincibles under the leadership of Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum joined hands nearly two years ago. India's win on Monday saw them turn the tide on the visitors, who had won the series opener in Hyderabad. The Rohit Sharma-led side, however, had to overcome injuries and absence of several key players to hand England a first series loss under Stokes and McCullum.
England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir became the second youngest bowler to grab a five-for in Tests for the Three Lions after a fantastic performance on the third day of the fourth Test against India at JSCA International Stadium Complex on Sunday. Aged just 20 years and 135 days, Bashir picked up five wickets in his spell, dismissing the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Ravindra Jadeja, apart from tail-ender Akash Deep. The youngster bowled a total of 44 overs in his spell, conceding 119 runs while sending down eight maiden overs.
Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been ruled out for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League with a disclosed shoulder. The 30-year-old, who plays for Lahore Qalandars in PSL, had hurt his shoulder while fielding against Karachi Kings on Friday night and went off the field. He will need four to six weeks to regain fitness. "MRI scans and other tests have shown he has a disclosed shoulder which will take time to heal so he is out of the PSL," the Lahore Qalandars spokesperson said.
A video of Misbah-ul-Haq from a live discussion is going viral on social media for the player's reaction. In the surfaced clip, the ex-Pakistan star was involved in a discussion of cricket and talks about legendary India player MS Dhoni's brilliance. Citing the example of the former India captain, Misbah said that Dhoni was such a player who would make such good use of part-time bowlers that some captains failed to use their pure bowlers like that. "Aapse behtar kon jaanta hoga ye (Who would know it better than you)," the anchor said quickly. To this, Misbah was left expressionless before continuing the discussion.
England continued to enjoy a remarkable turnaround in the fourth Test against India, reaping the benefits of sticking to the basics as they closed in on a huge first innings lead on a deteriorating pitch on Saturday.
