Sri Lanka cricket team all-rounder Kamindu Mendis became the first cricketer ever in the history of Test cricket to score two centuries in the same match while batting at No. 7 or below. Mendis achieved the feat on Day 3 of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Sylhet. Mendis scored 102 in the first innings and he followed it up with an impressive 164 in the second innings. Dhananjaya de Silva also scored centuries in both innings of the match and the pair also become the third in the history of the game to achieve the feat after Greg Chappel-Ian Chappel (Australia) and Misbah-ul-Haq-Azhar Ali (Pakistan).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is optimistic that it will be able to host Champions Trophy next year as a delegation of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to reach the country on Monday to inspect the ongoing preparations for the prestigious tournament. The delegation which will also include a security expert will visit all the proposed venues with particular emphasis on Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. Pakistan is tasked with hosting an ICC event for the first time since it hosted a part of the 1996 World Cup with India. "The delegation will be given briefings on the preparations. They will visit the venues in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi to see the upgradation work we will be carrying out for the Champions Trophy," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has restored the central contract of Haris Rauf after the fast bowler "admitted his mistake" in writing. The PCB had terminated the central contract of Rauf after Pakistan's tour to New Zealand just before the start of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in early February. The decision was made on disciplinary grounds after Rauf refused to make himself available for the Test tour of Australia in winter citing a heavy workload and his Big Bash contract.
Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan found himself in the middle of a controversy as some social media posts suggested that he was smoking inside the Eden Gardens premises during the IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. There were pictures and videos that suggested that SRK was smoking inside the VIP box in the stadium but NDTV was not able to ascertain the authenticity of the claim. The video went viral on social media and many users criticised him for his conduct during the match. A similar incident happened during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final when Imad Wasim was pictured smoking a cigarette inside the dressing room.
Nearly two decades after he made his senior debut against Pakistan, Indian talisman Sunil Chhetri is set for another milestone as he will appear in his 150th international match in the World Cup qualifier against Afghanistan in Guwahati on Tuesday. India played out a goalless draw against Afghanistan in their away leg contest as they climbed to second in Group A in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. By achieving the feat, Chhetri will become the 40th player in the world to play 150 or more international matches in the list led by Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (205).
