Champions Trophy 2025 will be remembered for the ages to come. The 50-over format tournament returned after a hiatus of eight years and saw numerous controversies even before the beginning. Defending champions Pakistan, who clinched the title in the 2017-edition, were the only hosts but India's games were played in Dubai due to the political tension between the two nations. As per the expectations, Rohit Sharma and co gave an exemplary performance and entered the semi-finals after remaining unbeatable in the league stage.
Team India's triumphant ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign so far has not just highlighted the muscle-power that the country's cricketing ecosystem has but also the flaws that exist across the border in Pakistan. Both India and Pakistan have their own T20 leagues - Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League respectively - but there remain a few rules that are unique to both tournaments. One of the rules is that the BCCI's decision of not allow Indian players to participate in overseas leagues. Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq isn't a fan of the rule set by the Indian board.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly hailed Team India following their win over New Zealand in the final group stage match of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy, saying that it has the capability to defeat anyone in white-ball cricket. India booked their semifinal clash with rivals Australia on March 4 following a 44-run win over NZ in their ICC Champions Trophy match, ending the group stage on a high with three wins in three matches. Speaking to ANI, Ganguly said, "India won the last T20 World Cup (in 2024) and played in the final (of 50-over in 2023). It is a very strong team in white-ball cricket, no matter who is on the opposite side. It has the capability to defeat anyone."
