Prolific Liverpool scorer and Egypt captain Mohamed Salah will be among the stars in action this week when 2026 World Cup qualifying in Africa kicks off with two matchdays. His two Premier League goals against Brentford at the weekend raised his total to 200 in English football, and he is now set to shine against Group A rivals Djibouti and Sierra Leone. Salah was the second highest ranked African in the Ballon d'Or last month behind Napoli and Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen, who misses the first matchdays due to an injury.
The West African University Games (WAUG) is back, this time in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ife, Nigeria, and the excitement is palpable. The WAUG is a multi-sport event for student-athletes from all over West Africa, and it is expected to attract thousands of participants from over 200 universities.
The second Delta State football league finals will hold tomorrow at the Kwale Township Stadium, with four teams vying for the N2 million prize money. Delta Football Association (DFA) Chairman, Ken Nwaomucha, who disclosed this yesterday in Asaba, said the prize money for the competition was increased from the initial N1.8 million, with the league champions securing N1 million, while the second, third, and fourth-place winners stand to earn N500,000, N300,000, and N200,000, respectively. He advised participating teams to adhere to the game’s rules, adding that two outstanding teams, PFA FC and Great Avengers, have qualified for the final. The third-place match between Ndame FA of Kwale and Mighty Wanderers of Abraka is scheduled for Kwale Township Stadium to hold at 12.00 noon before the final match, he added.
