Glenn Maxwell Injured In Freak Golf Accident. To Miss England Match In World Cup Due To Concussion

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023 match against England, to be held in Ahmedabad on Monday. Maxwell was on a golf cart, heading back to the team hotel from the clubhouse when the incident took place. Maxwell lost his grip, slipped and fell from the cart. In the process, he ended up injuring his head, suffering a concussion. The all-rounder's absence could hurt Australia's semi-final plans, but they do have the likes of Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis to replace him.

McLennan: No shortage of candidates for Wallabies post

Rugby Australia chairman Hamish McLennan said that there is plenty of interest in the Wallabies' head coaching role after Eddie Jones' exit and that the position will be open to foreign candidates. The organisation confirmed on Tuesday it had accepted Jones's resignation as a "sensible outcome" after the Wallabies' group-stage elimination from the World Cup, the nation's worst performance in the tournament's history. McLennan said an Australian coach's knowledge of grass-roots rugby in the country would be of value but added that Rugby Australia (RA) wanted the best person for the job. "It's around contracting, strength and conditioning, player identification, so if you’ve grown up through the system, you could argue that you might have a more intimate knowledge of that," he said in comments published by the Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday.

Watch: Eden Gardens Crowd Showers Love On Babar Azam. His Reaction Can't Be Missed

Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed three wickets while openers Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique cracked half-centuries as Pakistan stormed to a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh on Tuesday to stay afloat in the race for a Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final place. Shaheen's 3-23 helped Pakistan dismiss Bangladesh for just 204 in 45.1 overs before Zaman's 74-ball 81 and Shafique's 69-ball 68 guided Pakistan over the line for the loss of three wickets with 105 balls to spare. The victory revived Pakistan's outside hopes of reaching the semi-finals with six points from seven matches.

'Defeat Against India Hurt': Pakistan Star Fakhar Zaman Opens Up On World Cup Setback

A thumping seven-wicket win over Bangladesh has certainly uplifted the mood in Pakistan's camp and opener Fakhar Zaman on Tuesday said they're firmly focused on making the semifinals, despite all the ifs and buts. Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi led the pace attack brilliantly to bowl out Bangladesh for a paltry 204 before they cantered home in 32.3 overs to hugely boost their net run-rate.
