It was a thrashing of epic proportions as the Proteas lost the first Test to New Zealand by an innings and 276 runs in Christchurch on Saturday.
The fierce wind in Beijing caused havoc in the men’s halfpipe final, as 20-year-old Nico Porteous won gold, and American duo David Wise and Alex Ferreira secured silver and bronze respectively. In his final event of his professional skiing career, Team GB’s Gus Kenworthy got off to a disappointing start.
The Proteas' humiliation in the first Test against New Zealand was complete inside seven sessions on Saturday as the hosts wrapped up the match by a comprehensive innings and 276 runs in Christchurch.
Freestyle skiing at the Winter Olympics Beijing 2022 featured 13 exhilarating events and was a discipline where the hosts won half of their gold medals. Ailing (Eileen) Gu was one of the headliners of Beijing 2022 and fully lived up to the hype with spectacular and consistent performances throughout the Games, winning two golds and one silver. Qi Guangpu and Xu Mengtao both won gold in men's and women's aerials.
ZHANGJIAKOU, China : Nico Porteous of New Zealand won gold in the men's freestyle skiing halfpipe event at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday.
New Zealand claimed a rare victory over South Africa on Saturday, wrapping up the first Test by a comprehensive innings and 276 runs in just seven sessions in Christchurch. It is only the fifth time in 46 Tests since 1932 that New Zealand have beaten South Africa with their last victory coming in 2004. "It's a great day," an elated captain Tom Latham said. South Africa, who were 387 behind on the first innings, resumed the day at 34 for three and showed little appetite to chase down the total, losing their final seven wickets before lunch to be all out for 111. Latham said winning the toss and putting South Africa in to bat was critical for New Zealand's success.
New Zealand’s Nico Porteous spun best and highest among the 12 men’s halfpipe athletes at a frigid Genting Snow Park in the final event of the freestyle skiing program at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games Beijing.
