Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus has been named ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Year award for 2024, making it the second time of him winning the coveted honour. Erasmus, 29, was a constant threat with his steady off-breaks while leading Namibia in 2024. He started the year with a five-wicket haul against Nepal in Kirtipur, which set the base for him taking 18 wickets each in both ODIs and T20Is. In ODIs, Erasmus scored 364 runs at an average of 33.09, while in T20Is Erasmus amassed 363 runs at an average of 33.
Star opener Smriti Mandhana, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh and all-rounder Deepti Sharma were on Saturday named in the ICC Women's T20I Team of Year 2024 which was dominated by the Indians. Mandhana and Deepti were also named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2024 on Friday. Opener Davina Perrin smashed a fine half-century and Trudy Johnson put up a fine all-round show as England crushed the United States of America (USA) by eight wickets to climb to the top of Pool B in the U19 Women's T20 World Cup, in Johor, Malaysia on Wednesday. Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia were the other winners on the day. Bangladesh overcame Scotland by 18 runs, New Zealand defeated Samoa by 67 runs, while Australia were menacing in their 83-run win over Nepal.
The Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) celebrated the hosting of the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, which saw India lifting the maiden crown in both men's and women's categories on Sunday. KKFI president Sudhanshu Mittal believes the sport, which originated in India, has now gained momentum at full speed and will not be slowing down soon. "My heart is full. Today I feel Kho Kho has finally reached the level it deserved. Such an ancient sport was diminishing but when the Prime Minister congratulated us on our win then I felt we have reached the level. Kho Kho has now caught momentum at full speed and it will not stop," he told IANS on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Indian men's team for winning the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup as the hosts capped off the tournament with a double delight after the women's team crushed Nepal to become champions at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. PM Modi remarked that this triumph will boost the popularity of kho kho among youngsters in the country. "Today's a great day for Indian Kho Kho. Incredibly proud of Indian Men's Kho Kho team for winning the Kho Kho World Cup title. Their grit and dedication is commendable. This win will contribute to further popularising Kho Kho among the youth," PM Modi wrote on X.
The Indian men's team beat Nepal 54-36 in the final to win the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup title in New Delhi on Sunday. The Indian men's team title came after the women's side were also crowned the champions after defeating Nepal in the final. The Men in Blue dominated the final against Nepal with captain Pratik Waikar and tournament standout Ramji Kashyap leading from the front. Attacking first, an exceptional sky dive by Ramji Kashyap got Nepal's Suraj Pujara. Suyash Gargate then touched Bharat Sahu to give India a great start with 10 points in just four minutes.
