Luciano Spalletti has been announced as the new head coach of Italy, taking on the job following the resignation of Roberto Mancini.
The Italian Football Federation and Luciano Spalletti have reached an agreement for him to succeed Roberto Mancini as coach of the national team, according to reports in the Italian press on Friday. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Spalletti, the federation's top choice, will sign a three-year contract until September 2026. The former Napoli boss has held several telephone conversations with federation president Gabriele Gravina and has now agreed to take over from Mancini. Spalletti and Gravina are due to meet on Friday to finalise the contract.

Roberto Mancini insists that a potential move to the Saudi Arabia national team is not the reason for his sudden and highly criticised decision to quit Italy. Mancini resigned on Sunday with less than a month until European champions Italy recommence their bid to qualify for Euro 2024 and has reportedly been offered 25 million euros to coach the Gulf nation. But in interviews with four Italian newspapers all published on Tuesday he says he has made no decision about his future.
