Four Indian archers Aditi Swami, Jyothi Vennam, Ojas Deotale and Abhishek Verma are through to compound quarterfinals after they won in the first two rounds at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Monday. India's first individual world champion Aditi Swami won 148-146 against Indonesia's Syahara Khoerunisa. Earlier, the 17-year-old Indian archer had beaten Imayung Rai in the previous round. HANGZHOU, China: An athletics official suffered a broken leg and serious bleeding after being hit by a misthrown hammer in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, but his vital signs are now stable, a spokesman for the Games said on Sunday (Oct 1).
India's Aditya Dhopaokar's campaign in men's 81kg kurash lasted less than two minutes after Afghanistan's S Hassan Baiqara Rasooli knocked him out in the pre-quarterfinals of the Asian Games here on Sunday. The 21-year-old Indian lost 0-10 by 'khalol', a term used in kurash for a convincing win, as the Afghan overpowered Dhopaokar. Such was the powerful takedown by the Afghan that Dhopaokar landed with both his shoulder blades touching the mat.
Indian boxer Preeti Pawar secured a quota for the Paris Olympics and also assured herself of a medal along with Lovlina Borgohain and Narender as they moved into the semifinals of the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Saturday. The 19-year-old Preeti put up a fearless display against Kazakhstan's Zhaina Shekerbekova, a three-time World Championship medallist and reigning Asian champion, to eke out a 4-1 win in a fiercely fought 54kg quarterfinal bout. Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina, who received a first round bye, used her long reach to expectedly defeat South Korea's Seong Suyeon by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the women's 75 kg category.

The Indian men's squash team lost to Pakistan in their penultimate Pool A match on Wednesday but are firmly in contention to qualify for the semi-finals if they beat Nepal in the final game on Thursday. The top two teams from each pool qualify and despite the defeat at the hands of Pakistan, Saurav Ghosal and company are in sight of a podium finish. In the first match, Zaman Noor beat Abhay Singh 3-1. The score-line read 11-9 10-12 11-8 11-8 in Zaman's favour. The match lasted 51 minutes and at no point did Abhay looked like being in contention to win the tie.
India's Anant Jeet Singh Naruka claimed the silver medal in men's skeet event at the Asian Games on Wednesday, adding to the team bronze he won alongside Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Gurjoat Khangura. Naruka performed well and looked on course to win the gold, having not missed a shot until the business end of the final. Naruka finished his last round with 10/10 to finish his event with an impressive 58/60. But it was still not good enough for gold as Kuwait's Abdullah Alrashidi equalled the world record with a perfect 60/60 to finish on top of the podium.
