Anil Kumble is veteran of many battles. The most successful India bowler in ODIs and Tests has experience that only few cricketers can match in the country. He is also one of the few Indian cricketers to lead as well as coach the national team. Needless to say, Kumble has been part of many India-Pakistan high-octane clashes. Former BCCI selector Saba Karim revealed that he had pitched MS Dhoni's name for India's squad which travelled to Pakistan in 2004 but it did not work out as then skipper Sourav Ganguly had not seen him in action. During a recent interaction, Saba talked about how he saw Dhoni perform for Bihar and was impressed by the determination shown by the ex-India skipper. Dhoni was not selected for the 2003-04 series against Pakistan but in 2004, he went on to make his ODI debut against Bangladesh. He was also a part of the India squad for the 2005 home series against Pakistan.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 15-year-long international career saw him rise through the ranks as an unorthodox wicket-keeper batsman to one of Indian cricket's all-time greats. He's the most successful captain the country has seen and a revered figure in international cricket as "Captain Cool." Everyone has to start somewhere and former India cricketer Syed Saba Karim revealed one such instance in the commentary box, about the emergence of Dhoni, before his call-up to the national team. Karim recalled the first time he met Dhoni and how he became familiar with his skillsets after becoming a selector for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy.
