ATHENS: Before North America, World Cup magic made a stopover in Greece. Players battled and bonded not at the mega-stadiums of Mexico, Canada and the United States, but on practice fields squeezed into urban neighborhoods of Athens. There were no luxury suites or grand arenas — just a local soccer competition where migrants and Greek players kicked the ball on city fields before crowds pressed to chain‑link fences, as music spilled into the streets. May 26 : South Korea midfielder Hwang In-beom says there should be no concern about his fitness for the World Cup even if he needs to improve his match sharpness in pre-tournament friendlies against Trinidad & Tobago and El Salvador.
May 18 : Veteran Curacao coach Dick Advocaat named his 26-man World Cup squad on Monday, making no changes to the selection from March's friendlies as he opted for stability a week after returning to the job.
May 15 : Ivory Coast included uncapped striker Ange-Yoan Bonny, who only last week completed a switch of nationality, in their World Cup squad, which coach Emerse Fae announced on Friday.
