South Africa will take on a slightly depleted Team India in the first T20I of the five-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday. The Proteas will be boosted by the return of star pacer Anrich Nortje, who has missed a fair bit of action due to an injury. Wayne Parnell has also earned a recall, having not featured for South Africa in T20Is since 2017. However, wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock's form will be key for the Proteas.
Skipper Dane van Niekerk has been named in an extended Proteas women squad that will be representing Team South Africa in T20 cricket at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Umran Malik said that he is delighted to get selected for the Indian team for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa starting June 9. Umran had a memorable Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign as he picked up 22 wickets in 14 matches for SunRisers Hyderabad. Ahead of the first T20I on Thursday, Umran has revealed that former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn, who was part of the SRH coaching staff during IPL 2022, had predicted that he will get the India call up before the start of the season.
India's upcoming T20I series against South Africa will be a test for "captain" KL Rahul. With the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being rested for the five-match series, Rahul will lead Team India while Rishabh Pant will be his deputy. This will be the first time that Rahul will be leading Team India in the shortest format. Having been impressed by Rahul's leadership during IPL, where he guided Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs, former India pacer Irfan Pathan said that the batter has improved as a captain.
Joe Root, saying the charismatic cricketer could surpass Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in Test history, closer home, former India selector Saba Karim has said that the former England skipper stands head and shoulders above in the 'Fab Four' list of modern-day batsman, including Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson. Root, who handed over England's Test captaincy reins to all-rounder Ben Stokes to concentrate on his batting, scored a fine unbeaten century to guide the home team to a five-wicket win against the Williamson-led New Zealand at Lord's to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. In guiding England to a morale-boosting win, Root surpassed the 10,000-run milestone to become just the 14th cricketer to reach the mark.
India take on South Africa in the first game of the five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series on Thursday. The match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. India have some big names like Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma and fast-bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah missing and the T20I series will be an opportunity for a fair few to make an impression, especially looking ahead to the T20 World Cup this year in Australia. Two names that fans and everyone else concerned will be keeping a keen eye on will be Dinesh Karthik and Umran Malik. Both were exceptional in IPL 2022 and will be hoping to replicate those performances on the international stage.
