Has More Shots "Than Any Other Indian": Ravi Shastri Backs Sanju Samson For T20 World Cup Squad

With the 2022 T20 World Cup set to be held later this year in Australia, India's selectors face a problem of plenty in most departments. Among batters too, they have several options to pick from, and not enough spots to be able to include everyone who seems deserving of a chance. Apart from players like Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson, who have played for India but are not sure picks, there are also uncapped players like Rahul Tripathi and Tilak Varma who have been knocking on the doors with their standout performances in the Indian Premier League.

IPL could see increase in number of matches in 2023-27 cycle: Report

Indian Premier League (IPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has hinted at increasing the number of matches in the cash-rich league per season in the next cycle of 2023-27. As per indications, the numbers will add up to 410 with a gradual increase after every two editions. It has been learned that the Indian cricket board would schedule 74 games in the first two years of the cycle - 2023 and 2024 - followed by 84 matches in the next couple of seasons. In the fifth and final season of the cycle, it could be 94, although the BCCI has kept the option of 84 games also open. However, the bidders for the media rights are believed to have been advised to go with the calculation of 410 games, and not 370, a Cricbuzz report said.

We have what it takes to win on foreign soil, says Indian women's hockey team's skipper Savita

Savita says her side has what it takes to win on foreign soil as it faces hosts Belgium in a double-header of the FIH Women's Hockey Pro League this weekend. The Indian team is currently placed at the third position with 22 points in eight games, just behind Argentina and the Netherlands. Belgium, on the other hand, are placed in the seventh place on the table with 12 points in eight matches. The women's side will play Belgium on June 11 and 12 at the Sportcentrum Wilrijkse Plein Stadium in Antwerp, hoping to improve their overall standing. "We are prepared for Belgium. We have a number of seasoned players in our squad who know what it takes to win on foreign soil," Savita said in a release issued by Hockey India. "We have been consistently performing well in recent months, and we are confident that we have what it takes to win big games away from home." India had stunned stunned Olympic champions Netherlands 2-1 in the first match of their double header but lost the second match 1-3 in a shootout in April.

Watch - "For All The Young Girls...": After Mithali Raj's Retirement, New India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, BCCI Pay Moving Tribute

A glorious career came to an end on Wednesday as Mithali Raj bid adieu to international cricket. For over two decades, Mithali gave Indian cricket many memorable moments. The legendary batter conquered several peaks during her long stint. She became the leading run-getter in women's international cricket in July 2021. She went past England's Charlotte Edwards (10,273 runs). Edwards and Raj remain the only two women cricketers to have breached the 10,000 run-mark. The 39-year-old Mithali is also the leading run-scorer in women's ODIs with a tally of 7805 runs in 232 matches. Her ODI career average stands at 50.68.
