Former India captain Mithali Raj had announced her retirement from international cricket this year, and now she has opened up about Women's IPL, which is likely to begin next year, saying she is keeping the option of playing in the tournament. Mithali, who recently announced her retirement from international cricket, is amazed at the kind of "raw power" that the 18-year-old generates in her shots. "I have been a big fan of her game. After a torrid year that saw him suffer two injuries and contract the dreaded Covid-19 virus, Jeremy is all rejuvenated and prepared to do what it takes to succeed at the senior level, starting with the multi-sport event at Birmingham. "It's my first CWG and I'm feeling great. After the Youth Olympics this is going to be the biggest competition for me after four years as I had missed out on the Olympics," Jeremy, who competes in the 67kg category, told PTI. Jeremy had burst into the scene in 2018 when he became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
Tokyo Olympics bronze medal-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain on Monday took to Twitter to post a long message in which she claimed that she has faced "mental harassment" due to the constant removal of her coaches, who helped her win an Olympic medal, from her training process and were later allowed entry after several requests. She also claimed that her coach Sandhya Gurung has currently not been allowed entry into the Commonwealth Games Village.
The Indian cricket team survived some pressure moments to win the second ODI against West Indies in Port of Spain on Sunday. Courtesy that victory, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead over the hosts in the three-match series. Set a stiff target of 312, the visitors were down to 205 for five in 38.4 overs but Axar Patel (64*, 35 balls) revived India's chase with his six-hitting prowess to take the visitors home with two balls to spare on Sunday. Needing six off last three balls, Patel clobbered Kyle Mayers straight over the bowlers head for a six as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Patel smashed five sixes and three fours in his unconquered innings and added 51 off 33 balls with Deepak Hooda (33) to keep India in the hunt.
Boxing's assistant coach Sandhya Gurung and sports psychologist Gayatri Vartak have been included in the Indian contingent days before the start of the Commonwealth Games. Vartak is a mental conditioning coach who worked with the Indian table tennis team at the national camp in May. "Sandhya Gurung and Gayatri Vartak have been included in the Indian contingent," an IOA source told PTI.
