CWG 2022: To fulfill Lovlina's wish, team doctor's accreditation cancelled and head coach moved to hotel

To accommodate Lovlina's unjust demand to allow her personal coach, Sandhya Gurung, to stay with her at the Games Village, an accredited official team doctor's village card was cancelled, the women's team's head coach was moved to a far-away hotel accommodating the 'extra team officials' (ETO) with no full-time access to his boxers and an assistant coach and a physio were forced to share a common room. Not only this, for the eight member men's boxing team, just one coach - head coach Narendra Rana - and physio Subhash Rajpat Pal will be available round-the-clock at the village.

India vs West Indies, 3rd ODI: Boys are young, but played maturely, says Shikhar Dhawan after series win

West Indies in the third and final ODI, India skipper Shikhar Dhawan said that the young players in the squad performed maturely. Top bowling spells from spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (4/17) and pacers Mohammed Siraj (2/14) and Shardul Thakur (2/17) helped India crush West Indies by 119 runs (DLS method) in the rain-hit third and final ODI of the series here at Queen's Park Oval on Wednesday. "I feel the boys are young, but they played maturely. The way they handled themselves on the field, really proud of them. Very good signs for us," said Dhawan at the post-match presentation.

Chess Olympiad: On every board, India have strong players, says Viswanathan Anand - timesofindia.indiatimes.com - India - Chennai

Chess Olympiad: On every board, India have strong players, says Viswanathan Anand

Mentor feels team will be able to deal with the pressure of expectationThe 44th Chess Olympiad is going to be different for the Indian team for many reasons. Even as Chennai gears up to host the country's first-ever Olympiad and is one of the favourites for a podium-finish, the Indian team will not be having the services of legend --- Viswanathan Anand --- as a player. The 52-year-old five-time World champion spoke to TOI on Wednesday about the significance of the event, India's chances and more. Excerpts:How do you see the Olympiad making a difference to Indian chess? It's a big event and I think it shows that Chennai can organize an event of this scale. Secondly, with players from across the world flying in --- it's a good way to project your city and it will be talked about a lot in the coming weeks. I give credit to the organisers for having done a commendable job. Ahead of the tournament, is there less pressure on you now that you are a mentor and not a player?Yeah, probably. I hope to be able to enjoy it in the capacity of a mentor and see how it goes. Many feel the Indian team without you as a player is weak. How would you react to that?I think we have a fine set of players. On every board, we have strong players who can deliver and we hope to come up with a good show. Do you reckon there is a lot of distraction for the Indian team with all the talk of podium-finish and expectations of a gold medal?I think it's inevitable. You can't pretend that it's an unwanted thing and its part of the modern world. We appreciate that there is a lot of attention ahead of the Olympiad and I am sure the players know how to block it out.

No Neeraj Chopra, but India hope to still pack a punch at Commonwealth Games 2022

Commonwealth Games (CWG) ambitions have been badly hit by the last-minute withdrawal of Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, but they still have high hopes of gold in several sports including boxing and badminton. The Commonwealth's most populous country is not generally known as a global sporting powerhouse -- except for cricket -- but it has regularly performed well at the Games. India came third in the medals table behind hosts Australia, and England, at the last edition of the Games at the Gold Coast in 2018, and were in the top five at the previous four.

India vs West Indies, 3rd ODI: 'Tough one for us' - West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran after series whitewash

West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran said that though the 0-3 scoreline is "tough" on the team, the hosts are looking forward to the T20I series up next. "It was a tough one for us. We did a lot of right things in the first two games. I think we tried our best, the boys performed well. But there were a lot of games in a short span of time," said Pooran at the post-match presentation.

Test results show 'deviation', forcing badminton star into temporary isolationNEW DELHI: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu had a Covid-19 scare upon her arrival in Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games (CWG), when her RT-PCR test results showed some deviations, which resulted in the authorities forcing her into isolation for some time, TOI has reliably learnt. According to sources in Birmingham, some "invariability" was detected in Sindhu's RTPCR test upon her arrival in the Games city and she was put under observation.
