Commonwealth Games, Eldhose has been living a dream. Enjoying all the adulation that he is receiving on his return to India, Eldhose took time out to speak to TOI on his life-changing experience and his future plans. Excerpts from the interview:Take us through your gold-winning leap in Birmingham?Abdulla Aboobacker and I train together. Our target was a 1-2 finish at the Commonwealth Games. I was determined not to put too much pressure on myself. I knew if I got my technique right, I could finish on top. And it was truly a great feeling when our dream came true.

Ever since the 2019 Doha Asian championship and a couple of lower competitions in the Czech Republic, a lower-back injury has kept star sprinter and 2018 Asian Games silver medallist out of action in 400m. So, when asked when she would return to this event, the Assam athlete, who became a 400m sensation after the 2018 World Juniors’ gold in Tampere, said: “There is no hurry. It all depends on how the body responds and what the management (coaches, Athletics Federation of India, physios) suggests.” While the buzz is that she might return to 400m at the Asian Games next year, the 22-year-old indicated on Thursday that the wait could get longer. She wants to test herself in the 200m event at the continental games in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.

Notably, Sindhu had won a silver medal at the last Commonwealth Games in singles and also won the silver medal at the Asian Games in 2018. After her win, Australia batter David Warner took to social media and congratulated Sindhu on winning her first CWG gold medal.

Mirabai Chanu gave India a great start at the Commonwealth Games 2022 by winning the country's first gold medal in the mega event. Chanu lifted a total of 201 kg to win the yellow metal in women's 49kg weightlifting event. Chanu, who had won the gold medal at the 2018 CWG in Gold Coast in Australia, was miles ahead of the competition as she picked up 88kg in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk. Due to her excellent performance in the snatch round, which saw her set the new Commonwealth record, Mirabai needed to just complete her first attempt in the clean and jerk round and she did it with aplomb, lifting 105kg.

Supreme Court Says It Wants FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup To Be Held

The Supreme Court on Thursday said that it wants the FIFA under-17 Women's World Cup to be held and the matter must be sorted out between the concerned authorities amicably. The court observation came after it was apprised that a meeting will be held this evening to sort out the issue. FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup is scheduled to be held in India in October 2022. A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said, "We want the World Cup to be held." The bench also opined about not opening the matter for now.

The northeast club was left without a manager since the departure of Khalid Jamil — who became the first Indian coach at the helm of an ISL team with his NEUFC signing in 2021 — after a disastrous last season, where they finished tenth and just one spot shy of the wooden spooners. KL Rahul to lead India vs Zimbabwe after being declared fit by medical team

Shikhar Dhawan, who was named the captain initially, will now be Rahul's deputy. Rahul was recovering from a sports hernia surgery and was supposed to play the West Indies series before testing positive for COVID-19. Since his recovery was taking time, he was not initially selected for the Zimbabwe tour and given time to get fully fit before the all-important Asia Cup.
