Chennai Super Kings hero Rachin Ravindra credited the team's spinners, led by the "world-class" Ravichandran Ashwin, for their comprehensive win over Mumbai Indians, saying the depth in spin gives them the right balance, covering any off-days from individual bowlers. While Ashwin delivered a tidy 1/31, it was Afghanistan's Noor Ahmad who stole the limelight with a brilliant 4 for 18, helping restrict MI to 155-9. "Ash (Ashwin) is a world-class performer. I played a bit against him, he brings a lot of experience, he brings a lot of his cricket knowledge, the way he speaks about spin bowling, the tips he gives," Ravindra said at the post-match press conference after CSK's four-wicket win.
Rejecting speculation that he is the back-room decision-maker in Chennai Super Kings despite handing over captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, the talismanic Mahendra Singh Dhoni said he is instead focussed on reinventing himself and his strokes to "stay relevant" in the IPL. Speaking to 'JioStar' after CSK's four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in their lung-opener on Sunday night here, Dhoni spoke about the team dynamics under Gaikwad, his own form and also the regional commentary being done in the ongoing league.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni's lightning-quick reflexes behind the stumps to get rid of Suryakumar Yadav during an IPL match here have left former Australian opener Matthew Hayden gushing about the former Indian captain's abilities, despite not being in his prime. Dhoni, 43, is nearing the end of his career, having hung up his international boots five years ago and playing just as a player for the Chennai Super Kings after leading the team to five IPL titles.
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on Sunday said he pushed himself down the batting order as it lends more balance to the side. In his place, impact player Rahul Tripathi opened the innings alongside Rachin Ravindra but could not deliver. Gaikwad, batting at three, and Ravindra struck sublime fifties to set up a four wicket win for CSK over Mumbai Indians. "That is the requirement of the team (talking about the move to bat at three) and that gives the team more balance and I am really happy to change my position," said Gaikwad at the post match presentation. The skipper praised the performance of the spinners led by CSK debutant Noor Ahmad who took four wickets.
Pacer Deepak Chahar played his first match for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 and that too against his old side Chennai Super Kings. In a blockbuster clash on Sunday at the Chepauk, the arch-rivals went up against each other and Chennai ended up on the winning side by four wickets. Chasing 156, CSK rode on the fiery knocks from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (53) and Rachin Ravindra (65*) and went across the line with five balls to spare. Chahar, who spent the last seven years of his IPL career with CSK, not only took a wicket but also scored 28 runs off 15 balls for Mumbai.
Former India batter Aakash Chopra shared his views on Rajat Patidar and Ajinkya Rahane's captaincy debuts for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), respectively, in the opening match of IPL 2025 on Saturday. In a battle of two new captains, the less-experience Patidar outclassed the senior-pro Rahane as RCB thrashed the defending champions KKR by 7 wickets. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra credited Patidar for the win, despite admitting that the initial signs weren't promosing from a captaincy point of view.
In a first of its kind endeavour, The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), honoured the volunteers and officials in Chennai on Saturday at the Annual Awards ceremony. Speaking at the FMSCI Annual Awards function here, President Arindam Ghosh lauded the efforts of the volunteers and officials for the smooth and flawless conduct of all the events. "The volunteers and officials are one among the five connecting pillars of motor sports and they deserve all the accolades,' Ghosh said.
