Ace Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen started the defence of her title with an emphatic RSC (referee stops contest) win over Anakhanim Ismayilova in the opening round of the Women's World Championships in New Delhi on Thursday. The tournament started with home favourite Nikhat's bout and the pugilist did not disappoint. Competing in the 50kg category, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist took her time to judge her opponent, but once she figured out the Azerbaijan boxer's game, there was no stopping her.
The moment Mohammad Shami bowled the first ball of his second spell, it felt as if everything has fallen in place. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja's star turn with the bat might have got India a five-wicket against Australia in the first ODI but the credit for restricting visitors to a gettable total goes to Shami. "It felt alright right from the first ball of the second spell. The ball was coming off nicely from the point of release," Shami told the mediapersons after the match. "We talk about the seam position or off the deck, but the focus was to keep the ball in good areas because they were playing on the back-foot. My mindset was to pitch the ball a little further with a slip in place, as I had done in the first spell," he explained.

I enjoyed my bowling and batting, would have loved to finish it off, but the way KL (Rahul) and Jaddu batted, it was calming to those watching from the outside," said Pandya, the stand-in India skipper for the match at Wankhede.

Mitchell Starc then blew away the Indian top-order with some incisive swing bowling as India were left tottering at 39 for 4 just after the end of the Powerplay.

Ireland to host Team India for a three-match T20I series set to be played in Malahide between August 18-23, before visiting England for a three-match ODI tour from September 20 to 26. Cricket Ireland on Friday announced a bumper international schedule for 2023, with the home white-ball series against Bangladesh and India lined up. Ireland begin their busy schedule with a multi-format tour of Bangladesh between March 18 to April 8, consisting of three ODIs, three T20Is and a one-off Test match. They'll then tour the sub-continent, with two-Test series against Sri Lanka slotted between April 16 and 28.
