Four Indian archers Aditi Swami, Jyothi Vennam, Ojas Deotale and Abhishek Verma are through to compound quarterfinals after they won in the first two rounds at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Monday. India's first individual world champion Aditi Swami won 148-146 against Indonesia's Syahara Khoerunisa. Earlier, the 17-year-old Indian archer had beaten Imayung Rai in the previous round. Asian Games: Vithya Ramraj Equals PT Usha's National Record In Women's 400m Hurdles

Indian athlete Vithya Ramraj tied with PT Usha's 39-year-old national record as she qualified for the final of women's 400 m hurdles at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou on Monday. Other athletes like Jesse Sandesh, Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath, and Krishnan Kumar also made it to the medal round. In women's 400 m hurdles, Vithya finished at the top of her heat one and number two overall with personal best timings of 55.42 seconds to be among the top five athletes to go to the final.

India's heptathlon athlete, Swapna Barman, couldn't defend her title in the Asian Games 2023, finishing in the 4th position, just 4 points behind fellow Indian Nandini Agasara. In the process, Nandini bagged the bronze medal in the women's heptathlon event while the defending champion Swapna had to return home empty-handed. However, Swapna triggered a controversy on social media as she claimed that the athlete that won bronze is a 'transgender', who can't participate in the event. However, Swapna later deleted her post.

Indian athlete Nandini Agasara won a bronze medal in the women's Heptathlon 800m in the ongoing Asian Games on Sunday. The 20-year-old finished third in her first Asian Games with a points tally of 5712. She finished above her national compatriot Swapna Barman by a four-point margin. Swapna finished 4th with 5708 points. Earlier in the day, the flurry of medals continued for India as Tajinderpal Singh Toor won the country's second gold in athletics. With a throw of 20.36m, Tajinderpal topped the chart, surpassing Saudi Arabia's Mohamed Daouda, who, till then, was leading the race for the gold medal with a throw of 20.18m in his fourth attempt.

India's canoers and kayakers endured a disappointing outing as none of them managed to secure a podium finish despite featuring in four finals at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Monday. Niraj Verma finished seventh in the men's single canoe 1000m with a timing of 4:36.314s.
