India's top shot putter Karanveer Singh and discus thrower Kirpal Singh were among several athletes across sports who were handed bans for four years by the National Anti-Doping Agency's (NADA) Disciplinary panel. Karanveer and Kirpal were handed four year bans by the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP) of the NADA in its order on December 29, 2023. The NADA issued the list of the athletes who were handed bans by the panel only on Thursday. Kirpal's ban period began on July 7, 2023, while Karanveer will serve his ban from July 26, 2023. Both were among around 20 athletes from across sports whose provisional suspensions were revealed by the NADA in July last year.

India captain Uday Saharan, bowler Saumy Pandey and all-rounder Musheer Khan have been named in the ICC Under 19 World Cup Player of the Tournament as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced shortlist on Friday. "There have been many standout performers at this year's edition of the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup and the race to be named Player of the Tournament has been narrowed down to eight players," ICC stated in an official statement.

India were on Thursday drawn to meet Sweden in an away Davis Cup World Group I tie in September. The Indian Davis Cup team had blanked Pakistan 4-0 in the World Group I play-offs in Islamabad last week while Sweden lost 1-3 to Brazil at home in the Qualifiers first round. India have never defeated Sweden in five meetings so far but will have a great opportunity to get their first win as the hosts do not boast of intimidating singles players. The last time India competed against Sweden was in 2005 when India hosted them in Delhi and lost 1-3. Sweden have a very talented Elias Ymer, who is ranked 160, in their ranks.
