Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh has been named Player of the Year 2024 while retired goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was awarded Goalkeeper of the Year accolade during the gala night of the 49th FIH Statutory Congress in Oman on Friday. The winners were declared following a vote by an Expert Panel, National Associations - represented by their respective national teams' captains and coaches - fans and media. Harmanpreet Singh was the standout player amongst the men's nominees, receiving the most votes across all categories of voters.

India's javelin star Neeraj Chopra will join a training group led by triple Olympic champion Jan Zelezny this winter, the Czech Athletics Federation (CAS) said on Friday. Chopra, the 26-year-old Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021 and silver medallist from Paris this year, asked Czech legend Zelezny to coach him several weeks ago, the CAS added. "That made me happy because I had already talked about him as a great talent many years ago, at the beginning of his career," Zelezny said on the CAS website.

Coming into the match on the back of a perfect start, Pranav sacrificed his Queen early, taking away Vaishali's corresponding piece in a bold play. Star India wicketkeeper Sanju Samson unlocked a new personal milestone during the 1st T20I of a four-match series against South Africa on Friday.
