West Indies and India commence a three-match One-Day International series at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad on Friday with the visitors, even without their most prominent players, favoured to get the better of a struggling home side. Fresh from a 2-1 series triumph in England, India have opted to rest regular captain Rohit Sharma, key batter Virat Kohli, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. That presents an opportunity for talented and eager fringe players to make the most of the stars' absences at the expense of a team that was swept 3-0 by Bangladesh in Guyana the previous week.
Former West Indies skipper Denesh Ramdin announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect on Monday. Ramdin played his last match for West Indies in a T20I in December 2019. However, he will continue to play franchise cricket. "It is with great pleasure that I announce my retirement from international cricket. The past 14 years have been a dream come true. I fulfilled my childhood dreams by playing cricket for Trinidad and Tobago, and the West Indies," wrote Ramdin on his Instagram.
Cricket West Indies' (CWI) Senior Men's Selection Panel has named the 13-player squad to face India in the upcoming three-match ODI Series in Trinidad. The teams will compete for the CG United trophy. The three matches will be played on Friday 22 July, Sunday 24 July and Wednesday 27 July at the historic Queen's Park Oval.
West Indies on Sunday recalled star all-rounder Jason Holder for a three-match one-day series against India as they look to bounce back from a humbling loss to Bangladesh. Former skipper Holder missed the 3-0 series defeat against Bangladesh in Guyana as selectors wanted to manage his workload as one of the West Indies' all-format players.
Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from Twenty20 internationals Sunday, ending long speculation over his future in the shortest format.
