Two second-half goals in three minutes, including a superb chip from Leroy Sane, helped Bayern Munich defeat Barcelona 2-0 on Robert Lewandowski's return to Bavaria in the Champions League.
Barcelona boss Xavi lamented his side's mistakes in their 2-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, admitting they had left him «angry». The Blaugrana had plenty of opportunities to come away with something from the Allianz Arena but were profligate, with Robert Lewandowski — on his much-anticipated return to Germany — unusually wasteful in front of goal. Ad Bayern made the most of their visitors' generosity, scoring twice in quick succession at the start of the second half, through a header from Lucas Hernandez and a breakaway goal from Leroy Sane.
Edin Dzeko inspired Inter Milan to a 2-0 victory at Viktoria Plzen earlier in the day in the Group C, where Bayern Munich beat Barcelona this evening. With Romelu Lukaku still sidelined with a thigh issue, Dzeko stepped up for the Serie A side with a fine curled opener after 20 minutes and assisted Denzel Dumfries to wrap up the points in the 70th minute. Bottom-of-the-table Plzen had already been reduced to 10 men by this point after Pavel Bucha received his marching orders on the hour mark. In Group D, Frankfurt joined Spurs on three points after they claimed a 1-0 win in Marseille. Jesper Lindstrom provided the breakthrough two minutes before the break and despite Matteo Guendouzi and Cengiz Under being introduced, the hosts suffered a second straight defeat in the competition.Atletico Madrid were on the receiving end of a late show at Bayer Leverkusen in Group B. The La Liga outfit had struck twice in stoppage time to beat Porto last week but saw Robert Andrich and Moussa Diaby net in the final six minutes of the encounter in Germany to secure a 2-0 win.Club Brugge are top of the group after a stunning 4-0 victory away to Porto. Ferran Jutgla put the visitors in front with quarter of an hour played and Kamal Sowah, Andreas Skov Olsen and Antonio Nusa were on target in the second half to earn the Belgians an excellent win.
Anastasia Gasanova of Russia toppled No. 1 seed Alison Riske-Amritraj 6-2, 6-3 Tuesday in the first round of the Chennai Open in India.
LONDON: Chelsea midfielder Jorginho says the players must take responsibility for Thomas Tuchel's sacking last week but said his replacement Graham Potter had impressed him.
Bayern Munich scored twice in four minutes against the run of play, through Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane, to beat Barcelona 2-0 in their Champions League Group C match on Tuesday. It was an unhappy return to Munich for Barca striker Robert Lewandowski, the Bavarians' second-highest all-time scorer who left in the summer after eight years, with the Germans now top of their group on six points from two matches. Barcelona are on three points, along with Inter. Viktoria Plzen are in last place. Xavi's Barca enjoyed a dream start, boxing the Germans in their own half with relentless pressing and carving out several early scoring chances. Pedri's shot was blocked by keeper Manuel Neuer before Lewandowski fired a volley over the bar in the 17th. The Pole, who scored 344 goals for Bayern in 375 games, came close again four minutes later, heading on to Neuer from close range. The visitors did not give Bayern a look-in during the first half, with a hard-working Barca backline double-teaming every Bayern player when they had possession, nipping any planned move in the bud. It was a different story after the break, with Bayern bringing on Leon Goretzka and scoring against the run of play with Hernandez beating keeper Marc Andre ter Stegen at the near post from a Joshua Kimmich corner.
LEVERKUSEN, Germany : Bayer Leverkusen left it late but pulled off a 2-0 win at home to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday to kickstart their Champions League campaign and ease the pressure on coach Gerardo Seoane.
