The Tour de France was hit by a spate of punctures on Stage 2 after thumbtacks were thrown in the road. Jumbo-Visma coach Grischa Niermann confirmed to Eurosport that tacks were found on the race route near the start of the Alto de Jaizkibel climb, about 36km from the finish in San Sebastian. Ad Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) was among the riders affected, with the Dane forced to hop on a replacement bike at the foot of the final climb, while Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) finished fourth despite riding to the line with a slow puncture.

Tour de France 2023: 'Could have changed the outcome' - Did Jonas Vingegaard let Wout van Aert down?

Jonas Vingegaard «could have made the difference» for Jumbo-Visma team-mate Wout van Aert in the Stage 2 sprint, says Eurosport expert Robbie McEwen, had he contributed to the chase of winner Victor Lafay (Cofidis). With three team-mates in the front group as they headed towards the finish in San Sebastian, Van Aert was the overwhelming favourite to take a 10th stage victory at the Tour – even when Lafay launched off the front with 1km remaining.

Wimbledon 2023 - ranking tournament's top players - ESPN

At the peak of his early prime, Tiger Woods won nine of the 20 tournaments he entered in 2000. He won three majors and finished second in four other tournaments. It was conceivably the best year of golf we've ever seen. Entering the Open Championship at St. Andrews, he was a +150 betting favorite. That's equivalent to saying he had a 40% chance and the other 157 golfers in the field had a combined 60% chance. The following spring at the Masters, against a much smaller field (93 other golfers), he was again at +150. (Again, he won, completing his «Tiger Slam.»)

Tour de France 2023: Victor Lafay stuns Wout van Aert on Stage 2, Tadej Pogacar takes 12 bonus seconds

Victor Lafay (Cofidis) sprung a huge surprise to win Stage 2 at the 2023 Tour de France as the fancied Wout van Aert and his Jumbo-Visma team-mates were left to rue indecision in the final kilometre.
