Italian transgender athlete Valentina Petrillo ran a season-best time of 25.92 seconds but failed to qualify for the final of the women’s T12 200m at the Paralympics in Paris.
India para-athletes Simran Sharma and Ashok failed to seal their spot at the podium and saw their Paris Paralympics campaign conclude on a heartbreaking note. Simran stormed into the women's 100m T12 final without breaking a sweat. But she was ousted by her opponents and finished last of the four finalists in the event with a timing of 12.31s. Cuba's Omara Durand Elias, the world record-holder, struck gold with a timing of 11.81s. Ukraine's Oksana Boturchuk finished behind Elias with a timing of 12.17s. Germany's Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt settled for the bronze medal after clocking 12.26s.
India's Simran Sharma qualified for the women's 100m -T12 final after finishing second in the semifinal 2, clocking 12.33 sconds at the Paris Paralympics, here at the Stade de France on Thursday. Accompanied by her guide Abhay Singh, the 24-year-old reigning world champion Simran finished second behind Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt of Germany in the semifinal 2. Simran sealed her place in the final as the third fastest runner. As per the rule, the first-placed runner in each semifinal and the next 2 fastest advanced to the final. Omara Durand of Cuba topped the first semifinal.
