Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan on Wednesday celebrated his 30th birthday. Rizwan, who enjoyed a lot of success with the bat in the year 2021, was also named men's T20I player of the year for his exploits with the willow. The 30-year-old also had a successful debut stint in the English County cricket, where he shared the dressing room with India batter Cheteshwar Pujara. Both Pujara and Rizwan made their debuts for Sussex in the same match, and the former had a special birthday wish for the wicketkeeper-batter.
Former England wicketkeeper-batsman Jim Parks, who played 46 Tests between 1954 and 1968, has died aged 90, his county Sussex announced on Tuesday. At the time of his death, he was England's oldest living Test cricketer. "Sussex Cricket is deeply saddened to announce the death of Jim Parks at the age of 90," the club said in a statement. "Jim died in Worthing hospital this morning after a fall at home last week." Born in 1931, Parks made his debut for Sussex at the age of 18 and went on to play in 739 first class matches and 132 List A games for the county.

He was picked purely as a batsman for a single Test against Pakistan in 1954 but he only really made an impact once he took up wicketkeeping four years later. "It came about by accident," he once said. "I didn't keep wicket at the start of my career. I was a specialist batsman. A couple of years after that, Sussex were playing against Essex in a Championship game at Chelmsford, when our wicketkeeper, Rupert Webb got injured. Robin Marlar, the Sussex captain, looked at me and said 'You're doing it'."
Dan Ashworth may have had to be patient while on gardening leave, but the 51-year-old certainly did not leave Brighton through the back door when he handed in his notice earlier this year. It was quite the opposite, in fact.
Days after the squads were announced for India's upcoming five-match T20 International (T20I) series against South Africa and the one-off Test against England, former chief selector MSK Prasad spoke to NDTV about Cheteshwar Pujara's comeback, Umran Malik and more. Pujara was left out of the squad for India's two-match series at home against Sri Lanka, but then went and scored runs aplenty for Sussex in the County Championship to make it tough to leave him out of the upcoming Test in England.
Ollie Robinson and Dom Sibley have been selected for a County Select XI squad that will play New Zealand in a four-day warm-up match in Chelmsford from Thursday.
