Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali picked for England as they make three changes for third Ashes Test

England have made three changes to their team for the third Ashes Test against Australia. Ollie Pope has been ruled out for the rest of the summer, as he needs surgery after suffering a dislocated shoulder. He is one of the three changes, with seam bowlers Josh Tongue and James Anderson also making way.

Nestor Bolum targets knockout win against Liam Pope in WBF contest

Sydney-based Nigerian professional boxer, Nestor Bolum, is targeting a knockout against homeboy, Liam Pope, in today’s vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Australasian title fight in Sydney. It is a 10-round contest.   Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, after the weighing-in ceremony, Bolum, who relocated to Sydney in 2015, said that he is 100 per cent fit for the fight, adding that he will teach his Australian opponent a bitter lesson inside the ring.   “Liam Pope is taller, but he is too open for me to kill. I am going to teach him a bitter lesson tomorrow (today) by God’s Grace. I am 100 per cent fit, and my target is to knock him down,” Bolum stated.   The Guardian learnt that today’s fight will cost the fans as much as $3,000. Each fan will pay $70 for the regular ticket, $2,500 VIP and $3,000 for VVIP ticket.

Eddie Howe fires Newcastle United spending warning as Champions League beckons

NEWCASTLE: Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has fired a Champions League spending warning as he predicts yet another “big” summer on Tyneside. The club’s 0-0 draw with Leicester City on Monday ensured the Magpies return to Europe’s top table for the first time in 20 years. While the competition opens a lot of doors financially for Newcastle, who are likely to see revenues soar due to their involvement — they are guaranteed at least six games in the group stage — Howe does not believe transfer spends will mirror the unrealistic expectations of many outsides of the club.

An eagerly rubbernecking football public gears up for Doom Sunday

Then there were three. The Premier League will have its Super Sunday filled with AS IT STANDS league tables, tearful fans in ill-considered fancy dress and perhaps even a repeat of last year’s fake-news hoax, when mischievous Wolves supporters made some Liverpool counterparts believe the title would be theirs, only to find Manchester City were still going to be champions. With Big Cup, Big Vase and Tin Pot stuff generally sorted, most eyes will turn to the bottom. Three proud provincial clubs, managed by three stout yeomen of the Midlands, two from three must descend to the Saturday-Tuesday land of Don Goodman’s camel coat, David Prutton’s gush, Lee Hendrie’s frosted tips. Friday night at the John Smith’s, a Real Football heartland commentated on with the gravitas of a state funeral, where a point snatched in deep snow at Stoke definitely means more.
