Former England cricket team skippers Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen blasted the pitch in Multan during Day 1 of the first Test match against Pakistan on Monday. The pitch looked completely devoid of any help for the bowlers and the Pakistan duo of Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique slammed brilliant centuries. Pakistan cricket team batter Abdullah Shafique returned to form with a brilliant century on Day 1 of the first Test match against England in Multan on Monday. Shafique looked in tremendous touch as he slammed 102 off 184 deliveries before getting dismissed by Gus Atkinson. It was a significant knock for the Pakistan cricketer who scored three ducks in the last three matches. Even Pakistan skipper Shan Masood was asked about Shafique's form but he defended his teammate with a reference to India batter Virat Kohli. England's stand-in captain Ollie Pope has no doubt that Chris Woakes will expertly spearhead their pace attack in the three-test series in Pakistan beginning in Multan on Monday.
England captain Ben Stokes is still a doubtful starter for the side's first Test against Pakistan, starting on October 7 in Multan. Stokes is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during The Hundred and missed England's 2-1 series victory over Sri Lanka, with Ollie Pope leading the team in his absence. “I think he's got to do a few more tests, but he's been doing some running and stuff. He seems to be doing well, recovering well from his injury, (but) we don't know just yet. We feel ready, whatever team comes out it will be a nice balance either way. We've got a really deep squad with plenty of options with the ball and with the bat as well,” said opener Zak Crawley to reporters after England held its first practice session.
