Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday showered praise on star pistol shooter Manu Bhaker as he met the double Olympic bronze medallist after her triumphant return from the Paris Games. Singh said every Indian is elated by her "incredible performances". He also shared a photograph of their meeting in a post on X. "Delighted to meet India's ace shooter, Manu Bhaker, who scripted history at the Paris Olympics by wining two Bronze medals for the country. Every Indian is elated by her incredible performances. Best wishes for her future endeavours," Singh wrote on the social media platform.
Ofili, Oborodudu fail to deliver
Star pistol shooter Manu Bhaker landed back in the country on Wednesday after her historic feat of winning two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games and was welcomed by hundreds of supporters and her family, who braved a steady drizzle to give her a memorable reception in New Delhi. The Air India flight (AI 142), which brought Bhaker from Paris to Delhi, landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 9:20am, delayed by one hour.
It was a disappointing outing for Team Nigeria in the women’s 200 metres final of the Paris Olympic Games on Tuesday as Favour Ofili’s missed out on a podium finish.
Shooting duo of Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh made the entire country proud on Tuesday as they clinched the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics 2024. With this Bhaker became the only athlete from independent India to bag two medals in a single edition of the Olympics, as she earlier won a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol women's final. However, there's another record that has been created by the duo with this bronze medal.
Ace shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh doubled India's medal tally at the Paris Olympic Games, as they bagged a bronze medal in mixed team 10m air pistol match on Tuesday. Manu's composure was exemplary as she partnered with Sarabjot, who played an ideal foil as the pair won the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze medal match, defeating South Korea to script history at the Olympics. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media, to extend greetings to the pair.
A calm and composed Manu Bhaker scripted history to become the first Indian athlete in post-independence era to win two Olympic medals in a single edition of the Games as she combined with an equally unruffled Sarabjot Singh to clinch the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze on Tuesday. The Indian pair defeated the Korean duo of Lee Wonoho and Oh Yeh Jin 16-10 to earn the country its second medal at Chateauroux's shooting range. The 22-year-old Bhaker had earlier bagged the bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event at the same venue on Sunday, wiping off the terrible memories of a horrendous Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020.
