This week marked the start of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.
LONDON : The sight of the All England Club's manicured lawns proved irresistible for Venus Williams as the multiple Grand Slam champion made an unexpected - and winning - return after almost a year off court to play at Wimbledon on Friday.
Venus Williams has won her first match on her return to the tour with a three sets win with Jamie Murray in the mixed doubles. The pair beat Alicja Rosolska and Michael Venus 6-3 6-7(3) 6-3 in the first round in front of a boisterous crowd inside No. 1 Court.
LONDON :Italian youngster Jannik Sinner could not tame American John Isner's heavy-duty serving but the 10th seed had enough other weapons in his armoury to win 6-4 7-6(4) 6-3 and sail into the fourth round at Wimbledon on Friday.
LONDON : Andy Roddick's U.S. Open triumph in 2003 remains the last time an American man won a Grand Slam title but Frances Tiafoe believes the current crop of players could soon end the drought.
John Isner has broken the all-time aces record during his third round match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. It took less than two service games for the American to overtake Ivo Karlovic's tally of 13,728. He celebrated by simply shaking his racquet to acknowledge the achievement and now sits on 13,748 aces.
Novak Djokovic faces fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic for a place in the Wimbledon last 16 on Friday as John Isner targets becoming the sport's king of aces. Kecmanovic, 22, has lost both his previous two meetings against the man he describes as his "idol". However, with 2002 Wimbledon runner-up David Nalbandian in his coaching team, he is enjoying a breakout season. Kecmanovic enjoyed career-best runs to the last 16 at the Australian Open and third round at Roland Garros. He has also broken into the top 30 for the first time.
