The Indian cricket team secured a 2-1 series win over South Africa in the 3-match assignment. After losing the opening match in a closely-fought battle, Shikhar Dhawan's men made a commendable comeback in the series, rattling the Proteas in the second and the third match. In the process, the Indian team as well as a few players went on to record memorable performances which will be remembered for a long time. From Kuldeep Yadav bagging a 4-wicket-haul in the third ODI to South Africa registering their lowest score against India in the 50-over format, some intriguing records and milestones were registered in the series.
India's stand-in ODI captain Shikhar Dhawan is happy that his team was able to show a lot of character on tough pitches during the three-match series against South Africa. After losing the first game in Lucknow, India clinched the series with two one-sided victories over the Proteas. "The boys showed great character on such tough batting pitches. The bowlers were clinical today," Dhawan said after the match. "I am proud of the boys, the way they played in the series. The way they carried the responsibility and showed maturity. Would like to thank the support staff." The first game in Lucknow was a forgettable one for the 'Men in Blue' especially because of the number of catches that they missed.
Markram (79) and Reeza Hendricks (74) shared 129 runs for the third wicket, but South Africa lost four wickets for 63 runs in the back-end to settle for 278 for 7, a target India chased down with seven wickets in hand, here on Sunday. "They (India) bowled well, they did not give us any freebies. Whenever a team goes bang-bang, the fielding team all of a sudden gets that momentum in their corner. Myself getting out at that time of the innings was, maybe, where we left that 15-20 runs short," Markram said after India levelled the three-match series.
Proteas batter Heinrich Klaasen said he was chuffed with his match-winning contribution that allowed the Proteas to beat India on Thursday.
Boundary rope catches aren't the easiest to take. Players have to show not just excellent ability to track the trajectory of the ball but also be aware of the distance between them and the rope. India's Mohammed Siraj couldn't keep this delicate balance as he looked to catch a shot by South Africa's David Miller in the 3rd T20I in Indore on Tuesday.
