Ajinkya Rahane's knock of 44 runs put Mahendra Singh Dhoni's half-century in vain as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, here at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Rahane scored 44 runs while Umesh Yadav scalped two wickets as KKR registered a six-wicket victory over CSK with 9 balls to spare.
MS Dhoni turned the clock back at the Wankhede Stadium as he hit 7 boundaries and a six on his way to a half-century off just 38 deliveries in the opening match of IPL 2022 between CSK and KKR. This is the 24th time that Dhoni has scored a fifty in the IPL. The former CSK skipper came in to bat with the team struggling at 61/5 in 10.5 overs.

CSK vs KKR, IPL 2022, Live Updates: Chennai Super Kings find themselves in a spot of bother in the ongoing IPL 2022 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. CSK are four wickets down after being put on to bat first by KKR captain Shreyas Iyer. Varun Chakravarthy got the better of Robin Uthappa, after Umesh Yadav had dismissed both the CSK openers in the powerplay. Uthappa was looking lively before Chakaravarthy halted his progress. Earlier, KKR had won the toss and elected to bowl against CSK. KKR named three overseas players -- Sam Billings, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine -- in their playing XI while CSK pick four overseas players -- Devon Conway, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo, and Adam Milne. Ahead of the toss, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer received his debut cap, alongside fellow newcomers Ajinkya Rahane and Billings. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja will lead CSK this season after MS Dhoni stepped down from his role earlier this week. Both teams had met in the IPL final last season, with CSK running out victorious in the UAE. (LIVE SCORECARD)
IPL 2022 is underway with the clash between CSK and KKR and it promises to be yet another glittering tournament. CSK have a new captain in Ravindra Jadeja and the in-form all-rounder needs to lead by example, just like his predecessor MS Dhoni. Jadeja has been in excellent batting form over the past few years and cricket fans and pundits have often felt that the southpaw bats a tad too low in CSK's batting order.
IPL 2022 began in a disastrous fashion for defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they lost the wicket of opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over of the campaign opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Gaikwad, the Orange Cap winner from last season, chased a widish delivery outside the off stump and ended up edging it to Nitish Rana in the slips.
IPL) starting Saturday has become the most evolved cash-rich league, which promises to be bigger, better and more exciting than ever before. The two new franchises will add a new flavour to the IPL, which can completely change the dynamics of the league. The RPSG Group has picked Lucknow as their home base with a winning bid of a whopping Rs 7,090 crore, while Irelia Company Pte Ltd (CVC Capital Partners) opted for Ahmedabad with a bid of Rs 5,625 crore. With the addition of the two teams -- Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans -- the organisers decided to conduct a mega auction in order to give equal opportunity to every team to pick players of their choice and build a strong side. And the franchises did exactly that on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru by adding some talented overseas as well as domestic cricketers to their sides. Though there are some noticeable weaknesses in the teams, overall, they have tried to build solid squads. Adding to the excitement, as many as six franchises -- RCB, CSK, KKR, LSG, GT and PBKS -- will have new captains, who have either left their past franchises, or are donning the skipper's hat for the first time.
