NEW YORK : Former champion Carlos Alcaraz was dumped out of the U.S. Open in a stunning straight-sets defeat by world number 74 Botic van de Zandschulp on Thursday, while top seeds Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek moved on to the third round with little fuss.

Naomi Osaka's return to the US Open ended in the second round on Thursday, but the two time champion said she felt "grateful" as she departed in the wake of a straight-sets loss to Karolina Muchova. "It was really fun," Osaka said after falling 6-3, 7-6 (7/5) to the 52nd-ranked Czech under the lights on Arthur Ashe Stadium. "I felt very grateful that there were so many people cheering. I missed it a lot." Japan's Osaka won the title in 2018 and 2020 but missed last year's edition after the birth of her daughter Shai.
NEW YORK : Carlos Alcaraz made no excuses for his shock second round exit at the U.S. Open on Thursday after the former champion crumbled to a 6-1 7-5 6-4 defeat at the hands of Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp.
Spanish superstar Carlos Alcaraz was knocked out of the US Open by Dutch world number 74 Botic van de Zandschulp in a seismic second round upset on Thursday. World number three and 2022 champion Alcaraz lost 6-1, 7-5, 6-4, ending his bid to become only the third man in the modern era to win the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same season. Alcaraz had made at least the quarter-finals in his three previous appearances in New York and Thursday's defeat was his earliest at a Grand Slam since a second round exit at Wimbledon in 2021.
NEW YORK :Czech Karolina Muchova delivered a flawless display of serve-and-volley tennis to knock twice champion Naomi Osaka out of the U.S. Open with a 6-3 7-6(5) second-round victory on Thursday.
NEW YORK — Seemingly back in her US Open match, suddenly a point from getting to a third set, Naomi Osaka lost her way Thursday night, missing forehand after forehand until she ceded that game and chucked her racket, sending it clattering on the Arthur Ashe Stadium court.
