Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has said he will boycott the Russian Grand Prix.
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen and former champion Sebastian Vettel said on Thursday it would be wrong for the Russian Grand Prix to go ahead in September, after Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, killing dozens of people in the early hours, according to the Ukrainian authorities. Four-time champion Vettel said he had been shocked to wake up to the news and the Aston Martin driver is adamant he will not compete in the September 25 race in Sochi. "In my personal opinion, I woke up to this morning's news, shocked, so I don't know," Vettel said at a press conference on the second day of pre-season testing in Barcelona.
DUBAI: Four-times Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel said he will not take part in the Russian Grand Prix even if it goes ahead as planned after Russia invaded neighboring Ukraine on Thursday. Russia has held grand prix races since 2014, with this year’s event scheduled for Sept. 25.
The gathering will take place at the Barcelona test after Russia launched an attack on Ukraine that clearly puts in doubt upcoming sporting events in the country, such as the F1 race in Sochi on 25 September and the UEFA Champions League final scheduled for 28 May in St Petersburg.
